Why Partner with UpCloud?
I’ve been passionate about the hosting industry since 2001. Before founding UpCloud, my first company grew to become one of Finland’s largest shared web hosting providers, serving over 30,000 customers. Along the way, I faced the same challenges many of you know well—24/7 on-call responsibilities, solving technical issues, and managing customer inquiries.
At UpCloud, we’ve designed a platform that solves these challenges, offering reliability, scalability, and unparalleled support. We understand the pressures you face because we’ve been there too. Partner with us, and let’s help you focus on growing your business while we handle the rest.
Sincerely, Joel Pihlajamaa CTO, Founder

Introduction
This is the home page of UpCloud’s Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) program.
Our commitment to improving the world around us goes back to the founding of UpCloud. We’ve always made a conscious effort to operate sustainably – from the renewable energy we use to power our data centers, to ensuring gender pay parity within our organization. We are determined to play our part as we strive towards a better world.
We hope you find this page informative. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can keep improving.
We are in the business of delivering IaaS and PaaS solutions, which results in a comparatively modest environmental footprint. The largest portion of our environmental footprint comes from our energy usage across co-located data centers, office facilities, and business travel.
We are committed to operating responsibly and continuously seeking opportunities to reduce our environmental impact. From choosing renewable energy sources in our data centers whenever possible to optimizing the energy efficiency of our technology, we’re integrating environmental considerations into the way we grow and innovate.
We want to create full transparency into the environmental impact of our actions, starting with calculating our carbon footprint with the widest possible framework – including scope 1, 2, and 3 according to GHG Protocol Corporate Standard.
Our social commitments cover employee wellbeing, community engagement, and supporting open source software development.

We’re committed to the wellbeing of our employees and offer a variety of programs to support their physical and mental health. This includes offering extra weeks of vacation, family days, company retreats, and team activity days. Our comprehensive health care services include mental health care services. We trust our employees to choose where and how to deliver their work successfully. Hybrid work is the norm for all our teams and many of us work also fully remotely.
We believe in fostering a diverse, equal, and inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected. We’re committed to maintaining a high Inclusion Experience score and providing DEI training to all employees. We’re also determined to maintaining gender pay parity.
We’re actively involved in our community and support initiatives that make a positive impact, including donating end-of-life devices to schools and hosting campaigns offering free credits for students to use our platform – promoting educational and technological advancements. We are also empowering selected non-profit organizations by sponsoring hosting their websites on UpCloud.
We prefer to utilize open-source projects as much as possible in our development work, and regularly sponsor start-up hackathons and host events as a way for us to stay connected with our fellow tech enthusiasts. We also support open-source contributions to UpCloud’s product stack.
We have established a governance framework that promotes continuous improvement, ethical decision-making, and transparency across our operations. Our governance structure includes a Compliance Forum, a subset of our leadership team that defines strategies and sets direction for compliance and corporate integrity, as well as a dedicated compliance team responsible for implementing initiatives and monitoring progress.
To ensure awareness and accountability, all employees complete mandatory training on our governance policies as part of onboarding to embed good practices from day one. Moreover, employees must complete annual training on information security & data privacy practices.
Our Code of Conduct serves as a guiding framework for ethical and responsible behaviour across all areas of our business. We also encourage our partners to commit to the same high standards.
Our Anti-Corruption Policy is a set of rules and guidelines designed to prevent bribery, fraud, and other forms of corruption within UpCloud and our ecosystem.
Our Modern Slavery Policy outlines rules and practices that ensure slavery or human trafficking is not present in our operations, business relationships or in our supply chains.
We maintain robust cybersecurity and data protection practices that are regularly reviewed and aligned with international standards.
Our operations are certified under ISO 27001 and the CISPE Code of Conduct, both of which are independently audited on an annual basis. For more information about our security and privacy, please visit our Security & Privacy page
