Updated Words was founded in 2009 by Cátia Cassiano and Inês Lopes Bridges. The two long time friends joined they love of languages with their passion for customer service and started working independently under the same trading name.

In 2016, Margarida Sousa joined the team with her expertise in financial and legal translation. Margarida left the team in 2017.

In 2019, our co-founder Inês Lopes Bridges also left the team to pursue another career path.

Today, Updated Words is run solely by its founder, Cátia Cassiano, who is committed to maintain the high standards we have since day one.

Cátia Cassiano

Cátia Cassiano is the proud founder of Updated Words. Passionate about her job. Born in Lisbon, Portugal, she moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2006, where she completed her qualifications and started her career.

Certified Translator:

Cátia is a NAATI Certified Translator from English to Portuguese (CPN1CX65R), Chartered Linguist and Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (MCIL CL 26759) and Member of AUSIT (8104). She is a strong advocate for association affiliation as a way to maintain high standards and ethical values in the industry.

She specialises in Aviation and Tourism. She worked for an airline for 8 years, helping the airline with several aspects to their business including the translation of their Constitution, brochures, leaflets, official letters, press releases and other important documents. Her other field of expertise is the Certified Translation of various types of documentation. Since the start of her career, Cátia has been helping clients with their applications to the Portuguese Consulate in Sydney.

Her strong commitment to the profession and to her clients is what moves her. She is aware of the challenges this industry faces, and she is committed to continuing to work hard to overcome those challenges and provide better solutions for clients and peers.

Mentor:

Cátia has always been committed to her profession and helping the industry grow and thrive in this very challenging environment. So, when in 2022 an opportunity to become a Mentor at the AUSIT Mentoring Program presented itself, she took it with open arms.

Being a mentor has been a dream of Cátia’s since she started her career. She is passionate about sharing her experience and using it to empower the new generation of translators.

She has also started her own Mentoring Program at her online school, Updated Words Learning.

AUSIT Portuguese Language Division:

In 2024, Cátia started another very important chapter in her career. She is the Deputy of the AUSIT Portuguese Language Division. A division of AUSIT was created to encourage cooperation and solidarity between members. The aim is to create connections between professionals working with the Portuguese Language, helping with all sorts of Professional Development initiatives.

My Online School:

As a part of her commitment for the profession, Cátia also created an online school, where people can buy her Business Course for Translators or be part of her Mentoring Program, including weekly meetings and master classes.
