Services
Quality-wise, there is no difference between a Certified Translation and any other translation. A Certified Translation is an official document, usually required for official applications. It has to be carried out by a Certified Translator and it has to include their stamp. In Australia, translators are Certified by NAATI.
A Certified Translator is a qualified language professional, who has been granted Certification by a Certifying body. In Australia, that body is NAATI. To be Certified, the translator must provide proof of their professional qualifications and pass a professional competency test. Certified Translators are also required to provide proof of their continuing professional development to renew their certification.
No. You must be aware of the regulations of the country or entity to whom the translations are destined. Before engaging a translation service, make sure you know the regulations, so you avoid paying double for the same service. In Australia, all translations to be submitted to the Government (and most entities) must be done by a NAATI Certified Translator. In Portugal, the rules are different. For example, those living in Australia and submitting applications in the Consulate in Australia, they must hire a NAATI Certified Translator to carry out the translation and then get the translator’s signature verified by the Portuguese Consulate, which is the final step of certification for Portugal. We provide a Statutory Declaration, free of charge, for that purpose, with our Certified Translations.
Certified Translators are listed in the directories of their Certifying bodies. The best way to find them is on your country’s National Translators Certifying Body. In Australia, it is NAATI.
Depends on the authority the translation is aimed to. Some authorities, like Australian authorities, where the signature of the translator is not relevant for its certification, a NAATI Digital Stamp can be used and the translation can be sent via email. In countries where the signature of the translator is required to finalise the certification process, like the case of Portugal, original translation with the stamp and signature of the translator must be presented for final certification.
No. A Certified Translator can only certify their own translations. It is not permitted to certified someone’s work.
It depends on the level of Certification the translator has. Some translators have certifications in both directions, other have just for one. Their direction of translation appears on their NAATI Listing.
Yes. If alterations are proposed after the Quote approval, a new Quote will be prepared. The new Quote will set the new delivery date due to alterations, according to our Terms & Conditions.
Absolutely not. Updated Words started as a Team of independent translators. Currently it is run only by its founder, Cátia Cassiano. Updated Words is a trading name used by its members. If it becomes a team again, all members would be independent, and no work will be carried out jointly, unless agreed otherwise with the client. Updated Words shall not be deemed to be a company.
Although these services have some similarities, they are quite different. A proofreading service entails the revision of a translation made by a professional translator. All marks and comments shall return to that translator for comment and approval. Post-editing is the revision of a machine or AI translated text. Usually contains more errors and requires more work from the translator. Editing is the process of reviewing and edit a text that has been prepared by someone who wants it reviewed and improved.

No. The service is quoted per hour, so quote is prepared based on the needs of the clients and the time set to fulfill those needs.
Unfortunately, at this stage we cannot build ecommerce sites. We can build simple professional non-ecommerce websites only.
No. We can recommend a provider we use for our own website, but we are not responsible for the domain registration or hosting service registration. Once registered, clients must provide their login details so we can publish the website.
No. The website will be build in local environment (Local by Flywheel) and then transferred to the live environment in your hosting service.
In the first consultation it will be set all details in terms of plugins and templates. If the client requires some paid plugins, he will be informed and those will be added if approved. All additional costs regarding plugins or WordPress associated services will be proposed to the client and approved.
Pricing
Absolutely. At Updated Words there are no nasty surprises. All projects will be quoted based on the published Price List and our Terms & Conditions. The work commences only after the written approval of both Quote and Terms & Conditions.
Your Quote sets your finals costs. For Web Design services, if it requires additional costs they are discussed at the initial meeting and if any costs rise from the project will be put for approval before being made effective. This only applies to Web Design services where extra plugins might be required. All charges are set upfront, and work commences only after the approval of both Quote and Terms & Conditions.
Yes. The Quote is prepared based on the first document provided (Original Document), according to our Terms & Conditions, if you make any alterations to the Original Document, these must be submitted for quoting. The Invoice will contain the sum of the price shown in both Quotes.
No. It is possible to print and certify copies of your Certified Translations. A 50% of the cost per page will be charged from printing and certification.
Payment
For first time clients for translation, proofreading and editing, payment must be done upon delivery. For Copywriting, Web Design and larger translation projects a 10% deposit is required upon Quote approval.
For corporate clients, other payment terms may be arranged, depending on the project and volume of work. This do not apply for Copywriting and Web Design projects.
You can pay by bank transfer. Our bank details will be provided in the Invoice.
