Ordinary Days

There is a blog I love to read every Tuesday.  Every week on Tuesday she posts an "Ordinary Day" post and I love it!  I love to see the ordinary, every day stuff in which she finds beauty and appreciation.  Last week, I thought to myself..."I'm going to do an Ordinary Day post".  I have PLENTY of Ordinary Days.  I made it my goal to focus on my ordinary days with Carter...we have some of the best days together.   Last night, I was going through the pictures that made their way on to my camera this week and I had to laugh.....I didn't pick the best week to focus on "Ordinary Carter Week"......

He sat in the Weinermobile on our Ordinary Trip to Fred Meyer.......

He touched a Boa Constrictor at our Ordinary Zoo Class....

Talked to the Big Guy on our Ordinary Christmas shopping trip to the mall.
(Don't Judge!  There wasn't a line....not.one.person.  He sat and talked with Santa for like 10 mintues....they sang "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" together for heavens sake)

Played a crazy game of musical chairs at an Ordinary Pack Meeting.....

Not such an "Ordinary Week" for Carter and I'm starting to wonder.....

Is life really ordinary at all?

October!

October.
OH, OCTOBER!  I love you.  You are the perfect month for me and I am so sad you left.

Here is a break down of some highlights of the most wonderful time of the year ;)

The month started out with a trip to the cabin for Fall Break...Winter Break...NO, it was Fall Break... I just got a little confused because we were welcomed with about 6 inches of snow...hello?

We still had a good time...by the fire...heehee!  We stopped and ate at Maddox on the way down and my children are convinced they will never be able to drink another kind of Rootbeer again...so good.  We did the usual...swimming...pizza....we carved a pumpkin because afterall, we were on Fall Break!

Some people's children???  The little guy does do a sick robot...yeah?

Alec has been busy learning to play the trumpet....he likes it.

Alec had the opportunity to learn some science from one of Micron's top engineers.

 Carter and I came, too.
Image
Alec was just a little bit proud of his Dad.....

Since the start of school, this is how we find Emily....her nose in a book.  She walks home from the bus reading, she reads on her way to ballet, she reads when she is eating breakfast......she's been hooked on American Girl Doll Books, The Doll People Books and Judy Moody.  She LOVES her teacher this year and is having a really good year, so far.
Image
 A funny story:
After church, Emily's Primary Teacher came up to me and said she had to tell me what Emily did in class today.  Oh boy, do I want to hear?  They were acting out situations in which the children had to practice choosing the right.  It was Emily's turn and her teacher asked her to pretend to take some cigarettes out of her pocket and offer them to her friend.
Emily said, "I don't think I need to be acting these types of things out".
Well, then.
She would only participate if she could be the person choosing the right.  Oh, my!

Then we come to Carter.  How about some Cheese Nips for breaksfast?  I love this boy.
Image
Carter is currently doing a residency with one of the best Early Childhood Educators around....ME :)
People ask me what preschool he's in and I have to answer....he isn't going to preschool.  I am being selfish and keeping him all. to. myself!!!

He won't stop cutting!  He did a whole book of cutting projects in a day....I just let him keep going.  We've checked cutting off our list....he's got that one down.

We've enjoyed going to story time at the Library.  I signed him up for a "Stories Come Alive" class....they read a book and do projects that go along with the story.....it has been super!  We go to a class at Zoo Boise, too.  I'm enjoying my little guy and those moments that I know are going to be gone only too soon.

His new line is, "Mom, are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

I have to giggle...because I'm never thinking the same thing he is thinking...HA!

As for me, I like to pretend to be Martha.  Isn't this a cute idea?  I thought so.  If you know me you know I love to feed the birds and watch them out my kitchen window...I thought this was great for fall and the little birdies have loved it, too.

October Goodness!

I have been folding Origami Yoda's.  Yes...you read that right.  Weird?  Maybe so.. but Alec and I have spent some quality time folding those things.  Alec and his friends from school are into these books. Guess what I get to learn to fold next?  Yup... the guy who breaths heavy in the black helmet.  Help me!
The Strange Case of Origami Yoda

Loving our walks and bike rides to the river.
Image
Fall is my most favorite time to go down there...it smells sooooo good and the water isn't rushing past so fast...the river feels like I feel....more calm in the fall.
Have I ever mentioned I LOVE living so close to the river?
I love it.

Then the grand finale....HALLOWEEN!
I can't help it....I love Halloween!
We carved pumpkins, went to parties, had a fun dinner, dressed in fun costumes and collected just the right amount of candy...everything that a good Halloween demands.

Battle of the Bull....headed

These two......
Image
are usually together.  They are best buddies.  Carter is very protective of Emmy and vice versa.  Now....this is not to say they get along perfectly all the time.....they don't!

They are both bullheaded and I have no idea from where they get it....most likely Aaron ;)  When they get into an arguement....watch out....they both need to have the last word....this makes for some very looooong exchanges.  As Carter is getter older, he is really starting to give Emmy a run for her money and Aaron and I think it is hilarious!

For example, today while we were watching conference, Carter was bored (of course!) and was whinning.  Emily was trying to learn how to knit and it was starting to get on her nerves.  The following conversation took place:

Emily:  Somebody is awnery today and they start with the letter C.
Carter:  Oh, you mean Alec because he has a C in his name.
Emily:  No....I said STARTS with the letter C.
Carter:  Well he starts with a C in the back of his name...so you mean Alec. (He then runs as fast as he can out of the room......getting the last word)
Emily:  AHRRRRRR!  (She gives me the "I'm not going to survive these brothers, Mom!"look....I get that look A LOT. )

See what I mean?  Hilarious.

Back to the Big House.....

Yup....it happened.
Summer came to a screeching stop and Alec and Emily had to go back to school.

Image
Alec....5th grade...He wanted to wear his swim team shirt???  Go for it!
Image
 Emily....3rd grade....
This was our conversation when she arrived home:

Me : How was your day?
Emmy: It was good...it was really, really good.
Before I have a chance to respond
And guess what! It is really easy to make new friends because girls say "do you want to play with me" and I say "sure, I like your ponytail"......and then you are best friends.
Me: Oh..good Emmy. What are their names?
Emmy: hmmm...... I don't know.

If it would only stay that simple.....

I told Carter..."Look so sad that Alec and Emmy are going back to school"
Image
Does he look very sad to you? Me either.

He'd been waiting for weeks to get out the paint.
I told him "When the kids go back to school...we'll paint!"
Image
Carter and I also went to the fair.....shhhhhh....don't tell!
Image

It always makes me sad to think about my kids spending their day with someone other than me :(  Good thing I still have this little buddy to keep me company!
He doesn't go to the big house for a couple more years ;)

Last Thoughts Of Summer

"What a happy summer this has been, " thought Anne...and then recalled with a little pang something she had heard Aunt Highland Kitty of the Upper Glen say once...."the same summer will never be coming twice." Never quite the same. Another summer would come...but the children would be a little older...
L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Ingleside)

I love the Anne of Green Gable series....the books and the movies. I could tell you about 10 different parts of the movie where I get teary eyed...lol!

I definately felt that "pang" at the end of summer this year. It was a happy summer and I wasn't ready to see it end. The end of summer always makes me reflect on my children and how they are growing so fast.

We had a few more things we wanted to squeeze in before they answered to the school bell!

The butterflies came to the zoo this year and we wanted to go before they left....
Image
They landed on Emily and I.......
Image

Image
After the butterflies, we strolled through the rest of the zoo.
The giraffe gave us a good look on this day!

 Silly Kids!!!!

We wandered over to the rose gardens......
Image
The paths in between the roses look like perfect roads to Carter and he likes to pretend he's a car!

Paid Abe a visit.....try not to squint for the picture, okay...heehee
Image

REALLY  needed that last shaved ice for the summer.....
Image
The kids have wanted to get Aaron down to the Discovery Center for a while now...Aaron hasn't been as lucky to go on field trips there like I have :)  We finally got him there and we had a great time!
