Who are you?

​Hello, I’m Eleanor Tweddell. I’m a change and communications consultant, coach, trainer, speaker. I’m also a writer – my first book is Why losing your job could be the best thing that ever happened to you, and my second book is called Another Door Opens – Five Steps to Navigating Change. My specialism is talking about embracing the messiness of change to find joy and opportunity- how we can navigate the fear and resistance that comes with change – and find ideas and possibilities on the other side. Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

Values are a huge part of my work and writing – I never realised how important they were until I started researching my first book on change, and realised how much they guide us.  I was running a few workshops that included values, and wanted something to help the discussion – and discovered ValuesJam cards! 

How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?

I use them in workshops about change, when we explore what values may be at play in moments of change – but also I have been using them for inspiration for my writing. Pulling out a word every now and then and thinking about it as a value, if it resonates, if I feel resistance – it’s a very powerful exercise – and unlocks some brilliant moments of creativity!

Favourite rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?

On a personal level, loyalty has always been a very strong value for me (it’s not in my top 5 but up there) – there was a moment when I realised it was actually the cause of disappointment and sadness, rather than it being a the super value I thought it was – I was constantly feeling let down by other people not mirroring back my acts of loyalty – not very rock n roll – but it was a big moment of remembering values don’t always have positive outcomes for us.

How could a greater sense of FAMILY improve the world? 

Ah, well, Family is an interesting one isn’t it – I’m not sure the value of FAMILY necessarily improves the world – families can have massive issues! I guess if we use it to explore possibility then it could help us support each other, and care about each other more – but I’ve sat with this question for a few minutes and I’m not sure it would improve the world! Now, Compassion! Yes More compassion and understanding in the World – yes please.

Why did you join the ValuesJam community? 

I’m always on the look out for new ways of working.  I joined the ValuesJam community to discover how other members used their ValuesJam cards. By learning from others in the community I’ve been able to tap into a wealth of diverse expertise and insights that I may not have otherwise encountered.

How are you using/planning to use your ValuesJam card decks? 

BT has a very diverse workforce with teams spread across multiple geographical and office locations.  I love using ValuesJam cards as a fun (and fast) way to build and forge teams.  It’s a great way of getting to know colleagues and for growing personal connections with each other.  During project kick-offs I pick cards at random and we discuss as a team. 

 Apart from creating a fun and safe environment for open dialogue, it’s fascinating to hear the different perspectives, cultural insights, experiences and backgrounds that form the teams opinions.  

We use that as a platform to break habitual thinking and embed an inclusive culture.  Having open and transparent communication is vital when we share information, ideas, and provide feedback within the team.  It helps prevent misunderstandings, resolve conflicts, and ensures alignment towards common objectives

Fave rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session? 

I kicked off a recent kick-off workshop by spreading the deck of ValuesJam cards out on the table.  I challenged the team to agree on 3 cards that best represented their values as a team.  After a few rounds of debate and healthy conversation they collectively agreed on ‘Courage’, ‘Trust’, and ‘Teamwork’.

 Courage : They were determined to think ‘big & bold’, they did not want to settle or compromise on a sticky plaster to address the short term.  That would mean challenging the status quo and having some difficult conversations with senior stakeholders and operational teams.  

Trust :  They were all in it together so wanted to gain commitment from each other.  If you were given an action you had to deliver it to you best of your ability. 

Teamwork : The team needed to fix a complex problem.  No one person would have the answers, skills or expertise to solve it on their own.  They needed to work as a team to ensure success.

Why was this a fave rock n roll moment of magic?

This was the first time the team had ever agreed a set of values themselves before starting a project.  Their values acted as simple guiding principles that bound them together.  Despite many of the team not knowing each other previously, from day one they had something in common and had a shared purpose.

Some of the team explained that in the past values had just been imposed on them.  They were someone else’s values and not theirs, as a result they were just words on a page that had no real meaning, purpose, or buy-in.  Others in the team, said this was the first time they had even considered values.  Historically they had just been given tasks or objectives to fulfil.  Whilst they liked being outcome focussed, they loved how  using ValuesJam cards impacted the behaviours and dynamics of the team to achieve their goals.

How can more CREATIVITY improve the world?

Creative thinking allows individuals to approach problems from different angles and come up with innovative solutions. By harnessing the power of creativity, individuals and societies can create a brighter, more inclusive, and sustainable future for all.  It challenges the status quo, sparks curiosity, and empowers individuals to envision and create a better world.

Who are you?

Benedict Heblich blends motivational psychology and entrepreneurship to create products that serve people and the planet. As a PostDoc at the Institute for Entrepreneurship, Technology-Management & Innovation at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, he researched innovation and human motivation. He later worked as Digital Innovations Scout and Early Product Manager at BI X. As Co-founder of Vivid Ground, he developed a research-based digital health application for values reflection. Who are you?

It depends on who you ask: I work with market traders to government departments, on issues relating to policy development, charity mergers, and what happens if you’re the founder of a social enterprise who’s just been given 6 months to live by your Doctors… – but my favourite description of who I am and what I do, comes from a client: “he’s a tiger striped chaise lounge with pink flamingo cushions”.

What are your core values?

Accountability (if we don’t answer to anyone, then there’s nothing to regulate us, and stop us becoming people that we all don’t like)

Fun (life can easily become overwhelming, without a well-placed whoopee cushion)

Challenging (using data to ‘poke a stick’ at accepted wisdom to help us all live better lives)

Grace (there’s always 5 more sides to someone’s story that we’ll never know about)

Equity (we’re incredibly lucky to be born into the lives we have)

Solidarity (nothing ever changed for anyone until other people got involved)

Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

A lot of organisations and people talk about values, but when you scratch the surface of them, it turns out to be bullsh!t. The ValuesJam community seems to be one of the few places that people are genuinely committed to working out values, and realising the potential of them for all our benefit.

How are you using your ValuesJam card decks?

In the same way that some people use Tarot decks: drawing several when facing or reflecting on a significant choice or event, to consider it from alternate perspectives.

Favourite rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?

Either: (i) the impromptu trumpet playing, or (ii) showing the power that rubber ducks can have, as part of the session on the value of Generosity.

How could more LOVE improve the world?

–          We’d be more accepting of each other, and so less antagonistic, fearful, and unkind.

–          We’d be braver, knowing that people would still support us if it failed.

–          People wouldn’t need to eat so much chocolate (it’s known to contain stuff that mimics the feeling of love in our brains[1])

I had a discussion about honesty with a colleague and sometimes we think “honest” is only in the way we respond, but I realized that honesty starts with the question – and a genuine desire to learn more and to hear the answer. That genuine desire evokes a response – and more likely an “honest” response.

How could more Kindness improve the world?

We can all see toxicity in the way that people interact with each other and when your heart opens and surrounds the toxicity, and you are able to hear your inner voice, the right action – an action that comes from a place of kindness will without a doubt move the situation in a more positive direction.

How different people  understand and interpret the same word. A lot of personal stories connected to it.

How could better RELATIONSHIPS improve the world?

It is all about the human touch and connections. All meaningful relationships (at work, at home, in life) thrive when we show up fully, respect each other’s space, and create together rather than alone. Relationship is active, empathetic, and shared. When we approach relationships this way, we flourish together. Relationships are the invisible threads that hold humanity together. When we approach them with presence, trust, empathy, and co-creation, like in tango:

Trust among individuals serves as the bedrock of thriving communities, organizations, and societies.  When we understand and empathize with one another, we humanize our differences and bridge divides, fostering deeper connections.

Jenny Haase

Who are you?

My name is Jenny Haase and I make my home in Utah in the U.S., where I enjoy spending time in Nature and the beautiful mountains surrounding me. I’ve had the great fortune of being the daughter of Bob and Jean Hendricksen, and the mother of Taylor, Chelsea and Ashley Haase. I have spent my career in Leadership/Organizational Development, primarily in the areas of Client/Employee Experience, Event Design, and C-Suite Business Support Partner.

As the founder of “Kindness from the Heart,” I believe that even a seemingly small act of kindness can unleash an energy that ripples in ways unimagined … touching countless lives and transcending generations. I am an international speaker and a kindness ambassador and collaborator. My mission is to share a compelling vision for creating a Legacy of Kindness. I’m excited to be publishing a sweet and engaging children’s book soon (The Buzz About Kindness), a wonderful collaboration with Alan Williams and my mother Jean, who passed away recently at the age of 96.

What are your core values? 

It is difficult for me to drill down to just a handful of values, when so many resonate deeply and provide my guiding light! I’ve only been able to narrow the field to Kindness, Well-being, Connection, and Excellence because I see these values as embodying a number of other values that I treasure.

For example, for me, under the umbrella of Kindness are the values of Compassion, Empathy, Service, Gratitude, Respect and Equality (to name a few). Well-being embodies Health, Faith/Spirituality, Safety and Love. Key to Connection for me are the values of Family, Friendship, Community, Collaboration, Honesty and Nature. And Excellence includes Creativity, Learning and Positive Impact.

Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

I joined the ValuesJam community because I care deeply about living a values-guided life, and I enjoy having meaningful conversations exploring various values and how they can enrich our lives.

How are you using your ValuesJam card deck?

The ValuesJam card deck is a great tool for periodically reviewing my own core values, and for reflecting on the ways that I am … or am possibly not … living in harmony with those values. (For example, when I deeply value spending time in Nature, how can I sometimes let far too much time pass without nourishing my soul in this way?!) The cards can also be a helpful catalyst to learn more about those that I hold dear, as well as people I am just getting to know.

In my 1:1 ValuesJam session with Alan, I was delighted to randomly select the Compassion card (so close to the Kindness card!) and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. How could more KINDNESS improve the world?

Kindness is a superpower. It produces health benefits for both body and mind! It stimulates serotonin, which helps heal our wounds. It also promotes happiness—not just in the giver and receiver, but also in those who witness it. Kindness boosts oxytocin, which promotes connection, trust, and generosity while boosting our immune systems. And people who practice kindness regularly have less of the stress hormone Cortisol and tend to age more slowly.

Kindness brings a profound sense of abundance, joy, gratitude and wellbeing … into our lives and into our communities. At this moment, humanity needs much more kindness – to Self, to Others, and to the Planet! I truly believe that kindness is key to sustainable wellness!

Who are you?

I’m Bronwyn Clee, and my greatest claim to fame is being a mum and a grandmother. In amongst other things, I’m also a psychosocial coach, values geek, and can be a conversation catalyst. I love helping people transform bullshit into fertiliser, and have been known to facilitate tricky workplace dynamics into safer, stronger conversations. I have two values-driven businesses: The Institute of Hope and Protective Behaviours International, because helping people feel seen, heard, and safe lights me up. 

What are your core values? 

My compass is guided by integrity, kindness, compassion, respect and gritty, grounded, optimistic hope. 

Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

I joined the ValuesJam community because I believe values-led conversations have the power to shift culture. When I came across ValuesJam, it felt like it could be the missing piece of the puzzle, as in a community where values don’t just hang on the wall, but are alive in every room.

How are you using your ValuesJam card deck?

I’ve only had the cards a few months and have used them in 1:1 exec coaching client sessions and introduced them recently into a workshop with mental health professionals. The cards open space for honest conversations and they do it with soul.

Fave rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?

Experiencing a Team Lead in a session get so excited about the cards, she immediately wanted to introduce them into her external supervision sessions with staff that week. Having such focused topics with deep scope has been really helpful. 

How could more focus on FUTURE GENERATIONS improve the world?

By shifting our thoughts and actions from short-term performance to long-term values driven legacy, we change everything. If we made decisions with future generations at the table, even metaphorically, we’d not just see more compassion, more care, and way less burnout, we’d strengthen connections with each other. It’s the difference between the individual and the collective.

Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

I recently had the opportunity to use the ValuesJam deck during a session as a guest. Though I am new to the deck, I have quickly become a fan. I see its potential for enhancing our onboarding process for new employees and for enriching team meetings when we take the time to get to know each other better.

At the end of the ValuesJam Session when I drew the card Frienship, Alan referred to me as his friend. 🙂

How could a greater sense of GRATITUDE improve the world?

If everyone embraced an “attitude of GRATITUDE,” the world would undoubtedly become a better place. Such a mindset encourages people to recognize and appreciate the value in one another, fostering a more compassionate and harmonious world. It would also provide individuals with a more positive and enriching perspective on life.

Gill Mason 

Who are you?

I’m Gill Mason, training director for Kids Planet Day nurseries –  early years expert with a lifelong passion for learning and giving children the strongest possible start in life. I’m also a devoted Springsteen fan—drawn to his storytelling, grit, and heart—and a proud champion of vocational education. I believe in learning by doing, in heart over hierarchy , and in creating environments where everyone  can thrive and belong.

What are your core values? 

Care, equity, authenticity, and social justice . In early years work, these aren’t abstract concepts—they show up in every interaction, every learning moment. I believe in meeting people where they are, honouring every voice, and helping others find their rhythm and potential—just like The Boss would say, “you can’t start a fire without a spark.”

 Why did you join the ValuesJam community?

I joined ValuesJam because I saw it as a way to bring together everything I care about: human connection, shared values, learning through dialogue, and a bit of joy along the way. Whether I’m in a nursery, a training session, or a policy conversation, I’ve always believed values are what carry us forward. ValuesJam offered a fun, soulful, and powerful way to make those conversations more meaningful—and more human.

How are you using your ValuesJam card decks? 

I use them across all the spaces I work in—from early years settings to team days in the Academy  With colleagues, trainees, or even parents, the cards create these beautiful openings for honesty, humour, and heart. They’re brilliant in vocational education too—so many young people light up when asked what really matters to them.

Fave rock n roll moment of magic from a ValuesJam session?

There was one moment that still gives me goosebumps. A group of early years educators had just pulled cards, and one of them—who’d been really quiet—shared how the value of belonging reminded her of why she first chose this career. She got emotional, we all did. It turned the session into something unforgettable. It reminded us why we do this work. It was pure magic

How could better WELFARE improve the world?

 Better welfare is the bedrock of a fair society. When families have access to good early years support, when young people can pursue vocational paths with respect  and opportunity, when no one is left behind—that’s when society starts to shine. Welfare, to me, is about creating the conditions for people to live with dignity and purpose. It’s not just policy—it’s compassion in action.
