I just discovered Veloplanner today, and I'm already super excited to plan my next cycling trip with it. I'm almost at the point where I want to tell all my friends about it right away.
That said, I’d be very interested in learning more about the long-term vision and future plans for Veloplanner. What will Veloplanner do differently from Komoot and other competitors, and how do you plan to remain sustainably profitable without running into the same problems that many of those platforms have faced?
The current focus on a subscription model with mostly optional premium features, rather than locking essential functionality behind a paywall like many competitors do, is already something I really appreciate. However, I’m still not entirely sure what would prevent Veloplanner from eventually being forced to move currently free features into the premium tier as well.
I’m already a bit worried about getting attached to the platform, using it for a few years, and then ending up disappointed because of a sale, acquisition, or some other major change in direction.
I know this is probably unrealistic, but are there any plans to open-source parts of Veloplanner in the future, especially considering that the platform benefits from open-source projects like OpenStreetMap, as I think that would be a great way to give back to the community and would also increase confidence in the platform’s long-term future?
