To Match or Not to Match

Yesterday when I went into Parker's classroom to be "the mom" during their math explanation session I noticed Parker's purple and grey plaid shorts and blue shirt and thought, "I should take the time to notice my kids clothes in the morning before we leave for school.  Of course I forgot about the mismatched clothes until this morning when I overheard him explaining to Randy that a kid in his class never matches.  Parker must have asked him why he never matches.  The kid told him it was fun to not match.  Parker decided to try it out yesterday.  He found out it is not any more fun to not match than it is to match.  Today, his outfit make more sense.

Funny Funnies

The kids found joke books at the library today.  Parker was reading jokes on the car ride home.  "Did you hear about the cannon ball who was expelled from school?  He was buttering up his teacher."  "Why did the cannon ball eat the tightrope walker?  He wanted a balanced meal."

I asked what cannon balls have to do with these jokes.  Parker was confused himself and started to question if he was misreading the word.  Let's insert cannibal in for cannon ball and it all makes a little more sense, except that then I had to explain to my kids what a cannibal is.

Reason to Blog

Actually, I have a million reasons to blog, but somehow, I can't figure out how to find the time. Someday...maybe soon.

For now, I must record this funny little conversation we had tonight. It is a simple testament that my kids understand everything I say.

Gabby: Mom, John (name changed for privacy) doesn't have two wives, right?
Me: Who?
Gabby: John...John Smith (our old bishop)
Me: No. Why?
Gabby: Joshua said you told him he does.
Me: What?
Joshua: You did, mom. You said he has two wives.
Me: Pretty sure I didn't say that.
Joshua: Yes you did. You said when someone is a bishop they can marry two people.Image

Quote of the Day

"Mom, seriously, why do you make kids cry? It's really annoying."
-Parker, age 7ImageWelcome me back to the blogging world. Maybe I will do something with the 1,700 pictures I just downloaded from my phone. We can always set our goals high.

Tradition Adjustment

The Willardsen's have developed a family tradition of sledding behind a car on the old farm roads of Ephraim on Christmas day. Mother nature didn't cooperate this year. We had snow and then lots of rain. Our kids asked if we could sled on the mud roads. We decided against it.
Grandma and the kids refused to allow our tradition to be lost all together this year so we tried it city style...sledding down the pile of snow (ice) made by the city snow plows. ImageImage It required extra help to carefully mount the sled. Thankfully Aunt Minde was there to assist. The kids also enjoyed the human top experience of being spun around at an unreasonable speed on a circular sled. It made me nauseous just watching.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageWe then moved to the back yard. Minde, Brian and Kiona created an extra hill to allow for a little speed. ImageImageImageImageImageImageAnd for those of us who braved the cold a little longer than the rest we were able to enjoy the sight of Grandma Dyreng taking advantage of the man made snow hill.

Christmas at It's Best

Christmas Eve we spent at home with a delicious dinner prepared mostly by Randy.ImageImageWe went to Grandma and Grandpa Cooper's house to sing Christmas carols around the piano with Randy and Dana's family. The kids were anxious to get home to open one present (new pajamas) and get to bed. No one ever knows how early Santa may attempt to come.ImageImageChristmas morning we told the kids they couldn't come down until 7:00 am. Aah, too early. Next year we'll try 8:00!ImageImageFavorite gifts: Gabby - mp3 player, Parker - skateboard, Joshua - Lego's. Randy has to go with the squirrel nut cracker picked out by Parker. It came with a little bag of nuts, too. Lucky guy.Image
