Japshare to Shut Down

Obviously I have not posted any new music here in years, but I am making this post to announce that the mediafire files will be going down also on July 25th. So for those who catch this message, you have a chance to download all music from this blog. In fact, you can use the link below to download the ENTIRE archive of music here:

If you missed out on downloading the archives before they disappeared from this site, the underground Japanese music community has become huge over the last few years. You can find pretty much any of the albums on here on Soulseek QT http://www.soulseekqt.net/news/node/1 Definitely make sure you download the QT version of Soulseek, as the older non-QT versions aren’t good at searching using Japanese characters.

This blog started out with me posting rare Japanese music on 4chan threads in /mu/ in 2006 or 2007, back when I was a wee lad at the ripe age of 15 years old. Some anonymous user said “You should make a blog and post this stuff.” And so I did, and the rest is history. It’s been a great ride. さよなら。

Anime4chan – Live Stream Anime Community

That’s it for the update. I hope you enjoy these city pop and various other artists posted. I want to take this time to invite anyone interested in anime to a community I have been a part of for a while. This is a live-stream anime chatroom/community. Every Saturday and Sunday at 19:00 ET (23:00 UTC), we watch hours of anime based on a schedule.

Saturday – New seasonal shows currently airing, mixed with some old shows.
Sunday – All old shows and classics.

This Saturday in particular, 10/7, marks the start of the new anime season, so we will be marathoning the first episode of a lot of new shows that have aired starting at 15:00 ET (19:00 UTC) The way the schedule works is, at the start of each season we watch a ton of shows. Most of them are really, really bad. That’s just the state of the anime industry. But we find the gems in the pile of dirt, and build a schedule around it. So if you want to tune in to watch ridiculously bad anime, we will be doing at at 15:00 ET this Saturday, with the (potentially) good shows starting later in the night around 19:00 ET.

I know a lot of people into Japanese music also enjoy anime, so come join us on the weekends! I will keep my username in the room anonymous for various reasons, maybe eventually you will figure out which user I am in there.

In the mean time, feel free to post any suggestions or requests for future updates! I have been busy and I am not caught up with the biggest releases of 2017, so anything from this year you think I should check out would be appreciated.

矢野顕子 – JAPANESE GIRL [1976]

矢野顕子 (Akiko Yano) is one of my most favorite artists I’ve discovered since Midori. Wild, jazzy and genre-hopping much like Midori, she’ll go from using synthesizers on one song to using traditional Japanese chanting/instruments in the next song. Whoever wrote the last.fm bio for her is spot on as well:

Her music is by turns playful, heartfelt, melodic, ornate, and disarmingly simple, reflecting a love of music in all its forms and colors. She handles moody new wave, virtuosic fusion, traditional jazz ballads, straightahead pop, and singer-songwriter folk songs with equal aplomb.

I suggest starting with JAPANESE GIRL and ただいま。

The other psych folk artists posted below can be thought as “opening acts” to 森田童子 (Douji Morita). She is by far the best Japanese psych folk artist. I suggest starting with ア・ボーイ, マザー・スカイ and 夜想曲. If you like those two albums, download everything else by her!
