Fishing for Answers
A tiny fish holds big secrets.
To the casual observer, the zebrafish doesn’t look like much. It certainly doesn’t look like a zebra, despite its name. It’s an unassuming minnow, small, pale, and darting.
But to West Virginia University neurobiologist Eric Horstick and his students, it offers an incomparable, unobstructed view of the mysteries of human brains and behaviors. Go inside the lab and see what they’re discovering.

Amplifying Voices
Rozaireo Jones
2026 Truman Scholar
Journalism student from Fairmont, WV
My passion is both elevating voices that are traditionally not heard, and helping people understand the world and why it works the way it does, specifically when it comes to media, policy, political institutions, and elections.
There is a lot of movement and interests that guide our political landscape, and enlightening people about why institutions are failing, succeeding, or existing in the first place is incredibly important.
