Feeding People and Nourishing Lives in Southeast Michigan

Gleaners Community Food Bank exists to provide households with access to sufficient, nutritious food and related resources.

This winter, many neighbors facing hunger are faced with impossible choices—like whether to heat their homes or feed their families. No one should go hungry to stay warm. Your generosity and compassion is keeping food on tables—spreading nourishment, stability, and hope for brighter days ahead.

Food Should Never Be Partisan

Op Ed from Gerry Brisson and Angelique Power

"Right now, as the federal government remains shut down, nearly 42 million Americans are wondering how they’ll put food on the table ... When we talk about food aid, too often we reduce it to numbers and programs. But food is far more than calories or policy."

Hunger Hero: Charlie Oliver of Oliver Sod Farm

Planting Seeds of Resilience

Charlie co-owns the family farm in Macomb with his brother Ron. While the Oliver’s are best known for their sod, they’ve dedicated fields to collard greens, corn, peppers, and cabbage—grown specifically for Gleaners. Each year, they donate about 60,000 pounds of fresh produce to help feed families across Southeast Michigan.

Gleaners Voices: Meet Kimberley

“We used to be the helpers, and now we’re being helped."

For Kimberley and her family, giving back has always been a part of life. She and her sister often volunteered with their mother at St. Vincent de Paul, one of Gleaners’ longtime pantry partners. Their family doesn’t just understand the importance of helping neighbors—they live it.
