Wood-fired sauna in the Methow Valley

Seasonal Pop-Up
Mtn. Annex · Winthrop

Heat. Steam. Stillness.

Built for slow heat, cold resets, and good company.

The Hot Room

Inside, a traditional Finnish wood-fired stove stacked with 800 pounds of stone anchors the room. The fire radiates a steady heat, inviting you to stretch out across the benches.

When water meets the rocks, it releases a rolling löyly. A rich steam fills the space and awakens the senses. Step just outside to reset with a cold bucket dump under the open sky.

It is a slow, powerful experience where the crackle of the fire and the view of the valley come together for the perfect sweat.

What is the sauna etiquette?

Hot Commons is a shared sauna. A little awareness goes a long way in keeping it comfortable for everyone.

  • Go easy on the löyly. If you'd like more steam, please ask others first and add water gradually.
  • Keep voices relaxed and low.
  • Make room for others. Shift, scoot, and share the heat.
  • Sit on a towel. This helps keep the space clean and comfortable for everyone.
  • Be mindful of scents. Please avoid strong fragrances or oils.
  • No phones. This is a screen-free space.
  • Swimsuits are required.
  • No photography.
  • Listen to your body. Step out whenever you need.

Our staff may offer gentle guidance to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

Are there age limits?

Yes. Hot Commons is open to guests 16 and older. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and a parental waiver must be signed prior to participation.

What are the benefits of hot sauna and cold therapy?

Hot sauna and cold exposure are time-tested wellness practices that support both physical recovery and mental wellbeing.

Hot sauna encourages circulation, muscle relaxation, and stress relief by gently raising your heart rate and body temperature. Many people find it helps them unwind, sleep better, and feel more present in their body.

Cold therapy provides a brief, intentional challenge that can reduce soreness, sharpen focus, and boost energy and mood when practiced safely.

Used together, heat and cold create a powerful contrast that many people find deeply restorative, leaving them feeling both relaxed and refreshed. As with any wellness practice, we encourage guests to listen to their bodies and move at their own pace.

What materials make up the sauna?

Our sauna was built with traditional, sauna-specific materials that perform well in high heat and humidity.

The hot room is constructed entirely from solid alder wood, a classic sauna material known for being naturally low-resin, low-odor, and comfortable under heat. Some of the wood is thermally treated using heat only (no chemicals) to improve stability and durability in sauna conditions.

The interior wood walls are finished with a Finnish sauna wax specifically designed for sauna environments. The sauna is heated with a wood-fired stove and built with proper ventilation to support clean, breathable air.

The result reflects both traditional sauna building practices and modern wellness standards.

How hot is the sauna?

We keep the hot room between 170°F and 200°F.

What is your cancellation policy?

We totally understand that plans change. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 24 hours before your session start time.

Cancellations made with 24+ hours' notice can be rescheduled or refunded according to your booking type. Sessions canceled within 24 hours of the start time, or missed appointments, are not eligible for a refund. This helps us keep the schedule running smoothly for everyone.

If something truly unexpected comes up, feel free to reach out. While we can't guarantee exceptions, we're always happy to take a look.

Is Hot Commons open year-round?

No. Hot Commons operates seasonally and typically pauses operations during the summer months (approximately July–September). These dates may shift year to year depending on weather conditions, fire danger, and burn bans.

Does Hot Commons move locations?

Yes! We move to follow the seasons and the landscape. We're currently set up at Mtn. Annex in Winthrop. Follow us on Instagram or sign up for our mailing list to hear about future locations.
