TRANSLATING THE WEBSITE:
On the above website, if your browser doesn't automatically translate the website (it is in Dutch), you can google how to translate the website on your browser to find the above show to watch.
OR if you can't translate the website, on May 5 click on the above link and, while using it in Dutch, click on the red "Vandaag" (Dutch for "Today") button and look for 20:35.
TRANSLATING THE VIDEO:
THEN when you are watching the actual video, it is in Dutch (with a bit of English), so if you want, try googling how to put subtitles on the video.
***For non-tech people, a simple way could be to get a translation app on your phone. Hold the phone next to your computer and let it translate while you watch the video on your computer and watch the translation on your phone.***
Even if you don't translate the video, I still enjoy watching the show in Dutch.
For those who can't watch it live, a recording of it usually stays at the above link for a number of days after the event (7 days, I think). You'll have to click on the "Vandaag" ("Today") button pick list to show previous days' schedules and look for May 5, 20:35.
You can also watch their May 4 Remembrance Day show called "Nationale Herdenking" ("National Commemoration") live on May 4 at 18:45 CET, or 12:45 ET, at the same link as above, using the same directions as above.
What Is Liberation Day?
On May 4 and May 5 every year since 1946 the Netherlands have been celebrating Canada and the other countries who liberated them during WWII.
May 4 is Remembrance Day and is a day of more solemn events.
May 5 is Liberation Day and is a day of music, food, and celebration all across the country, culminating in the evening with the above event attended by the King and Queen. There were 200 performances in 14 cities in 2026.
The event is mostly in Dutch, although a few songs are usually sung in English.
Celebrate with them by watching this event live or recorded! Tell others about it so they can enjoy it too! Put on a public viewing party in your community!
For you Star Wars fans out there, May 4 should be an easy day for you to remember!

About This Site
Hi, I'm Matthew Dickson! I made this site because in 2024 I learned that the Netherlands have been putting on these celebrations for decades, and as a Canadian in my 50s, I was completely embarrassed that I hadn't heard of them.
I started by sharing the event on social media, and then I put on a public viewing party in my hometown.
I think all Canadians should know about this important piece of history and celebrate with the Dutch during their time of great celebration!
Please help make this known to all Canadians by sharing or putting on a viewing party!
~ Matthew Dickson is the founder of Mind Aid, the world's first website with all the groups helping people with mental illness in developing countries on one site (please consider donating to this vastly under-resourced cause).
He has also successfully recovered from schizophrenia and is the first person with schizophrenia to bicycle across Canada.
He is a public speaker and loves to share his mental health tips with others.
