First harvest from our Tilapia Biofloc pilot in Mojokerto — and it's just the beginning. On May 19, the AgResults Indonesia Aquaculture Challenge Project (managed by WWF Indonesia) successfully completed its first harvest at KDMP Gempolkerep, Mojokerto. This milestone marks a meaningful step forward in expanding access to modern aquaculture technology for small-scale fish farmers. What made this pilot stand out: - Round pond system (4m diameter) as a complement to the earthen pond model previously demonstrated in Pati, offering more flexibility and urban farming potential - 1,100 tilapia stocked with controlled aeration and water circulation for stable dissolved oxygen levels - Biofloc technology optimizing microbial balance, metabolic rate, and survival rate to maximize Average Daily Growth (ADG) None of this would have been possible without strong cross-sector collaboration: WWF Indonesia, PT Venambak Kail Dipantara, Prima Eko, PT Bumiwirasta, PT Kisaran Aquaculture, CV Republik Vannamei, and the support of local fishery extension officers from DKP. The ceremonial harvest also brought together key stakeholders from KKP's Pusluh KP, Dinas Pangan dan Perikanan Mojokerto, and local Pokdakan representatives — a sign that innovation in aquaculture is gaining the institutional support it deserves. Our goal: a scalable, efficient, and sustainable aquaculture model that creates real impact for local farmers. Curious about the aeration technology behind this project? PT Venambak Kail Dipantara has successfully completed a Technology Transfer Program for local shrimp farmers in Desa Penyaring, Sumbawa, on May 4–5, 2026. This initiative is part of our project "Climate-Smart Traditional Plus Shrimp Aquaculture with Integrated Solar Energy Nursery Pond," supported by LCDI-ITF funding (a collaboration between Bappenas and the UK Government, UK FCDO, through the Environmental Fund Management Agency or BPDLH). The project is also supported by the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government, Sumbawa Regency, Sumbawa Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Agency (DKP Sumbawa), Indonesian Shrimp Forum (FUI), and UNIDO GQSP. The initiative kicked off on May 4 with a field survey and direct observation of Nursery Pond facilities and grow-out ponds, conducted alongside industry experts to identify on-the-ground challenges. On May 5, local farmers gathered at Balai Pertemuan Dusun Omo for the main event, a hands-on technology transfer session focused on upgrading traditional shrimp farming practices through smart, solar-powered solutions. Ir. Budhi Wibowo from the Indonesian Shrimp Forum (FUI) highlighted that using nursery pond larvae aged above Post Larvae 20 has proven to increase shrimp survival rates by 10 to 20%, directly lowering production costs and strengthening Indonesia's competitiveness in the global shrimp market. Ir. Muh. Saenong from Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) added that with improved farming protocols, production can grow from the current average of 300 kg per cycle to up to 1 ton, simply by optimizing nursery pond management and shortening the grow-out period to 60 to 70 days. Farmers were introduced to Venambak's integrated ecosystem of solutions, all powered by renewable solar energy: - VENJET Aerator for efficient aeration to maintain dissolved oxygen levels. - Smart FEEDERVE for automated feeding controlled in real time via smartphone for optimal FCR efficiency. - Water Quality Monitoring with digital sensors for real time parameter tracking. - Nursery Pond Management System for strengthening shrimp larvae immunity before transfer to grow-out ponds. - Integrated Solar Energy System powering all devices to reduce operational costs and carbon emissions. Desa Penyaring is positioned to become a national replication model for climate-smart, low-carbon aquaculture in Indonesia. This initiative reinforces our belief that high productivity and environmental preservation can and must go hand in hand. We thank BPDLH, Bappenas, and all partners for their continued trust and collaboration in empowering Indonesia's coastal communities. Recently, a 5.58 kWp hybrid solar energy system was successfully installed at Raja Nila, a tilapia cultivation farm in Medan, North Sumatra. This initiative is a strategic step to enhance energy efficiency, reduce reliance on conventional power grids, and significantly lower operational electricity costs for intensive tilapia cultivation systems. The hybrid solar system is designed to capture Medan's abundant sunlight as the primary electricity source during the day, directly powering the cultivation ponds' electrical loads. Excess energy is intelligently stored in a battery system for use when solar production drops or during the night. The system remains seamlessly integrated with the main PLN grid as a reliable backup, ensuring zero downtime for critical aeration and water quality operations. By transitioning to this clean energy ecosystem, the Raja Nila tilapia farm is projected to achieve a 30% to 40% saving in electricity costs. Beyond financial efficiency, this installation ensures a stable, uninterrupted power supply for the ponds while drastically cutting greenhouse gas emissions. As a Clean Tech Energy partner, Venambak is committed to delivering end-to-end renewable energy solutions tailored for the aquaculture sector. The goal is clear: achieve higher operational efficiency and stability for fish farmers while maintaining environmental responsibility. On Wednesday, 18 February 2026, a coordination meeting was held to prepare the Tilapia Biofloc Pilot Project at KDMP Gempolkerep, Mojokerto Regency, East Java. This initiative brings together WWF through the AgResults Program, PT Venambak Kail Dipantara, Prima Eko, PT Bumiwirasta, PT Kisaran Aquaculture, CV Republik Vannamei, and is supported by fisheries extension officers from the local Marine and Fisheries Office (DKP). The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to advancing sustainable aquaculture in Indonesia. The pilot will apply a biofloc system with a stocking density of 1,100 tilapia in a 4 meter diameter circular tank, designed to improve productivity and maintain water stability under intensive conditions. Venambak contributes low power aeration units to ensure optimal dissolved oxygen levels throughout the cycle. In a biofloc system, oxygen stability directly affects microbial balance, fish metabolism, and survival rates. The goal is clear: achieve higher output per unit area while maintaining fish health and environmental responsibility. This project also marks a progression from the previous demonstration in Pati, which used earthen ponds. The shift to circular tanks allows more controlled water circulation and aeration, generating valuable comparative insights for scalable and efficient biofloc models. We believe sustainable aquaculture grows through collaboration, precision technology, and measurable impact. Interested in collaboration or exploring our climate smart aquaculture solutions?
