We have a variety of different classes in order to gain access to our tools and spaces, and learn new skills.

Interested in gifting a Safety and Orientation Class, a Theory Based Workshop, or a Project Based Workshop to friends and family? Get a gift certificate here. Please note that gift cards are non-refundable.

Safety & Orientation Classes

Our Safety & Orientation classes review basic safety and proper operation of each tool area, and are required for tool access regardless of previous experience. After taking these classes, students have the option to sign up for membership or become a drop-in user of the space.

Project Based Classes

Dive into a specific skill or technique with our project based workshops. From introductory sessions to advanced classes, there's always something new to discover. Our project-based classes offer a dynamic environment where participants of all skill levels can unleash their creativity, learn new skills, and bring their ideas to life.

Ceramics Workshops

Ceramic Carving and Surface Design

In this three-hour class, we will explore carving and under glazing in ceramics and learn sgraffito, inlay, and stenciling techniques. We will prepare a plate for you, and you may decorate it any way you choose, resulting in a piece not only unique to you, but functional!

Please come with an idea or image and we will help you bring it to life. Pieces will be ready within the month, and you will be notified for pick up.

Sushi Set Workshop

Looking for a fun night out? Join us for a unique ceramics experience using handbuilding techniques to make your very own sushi set.

During this class, you will be guided through the process of handbuilding and sculpting your own sushi tray, soy sauce dish, and chopstick holders. Once your pieces are complete, they will be fired and glazed, leaving you with a beautiful and functional sushi set that is completely one-of-a-kind.

Whether you're a seasoned ceramics artist or a complete beginner, our instructors will make sure you feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire process. So grab a friend or two, and come spend an evening getting creative.

Paint Palette Pottery Workshop

The perfect set for any artist. Create a custom palette set to best suit your artistic practice.

Through handbuilding you will build and sculpt your own paint palette, water cup and brush holder.

Once your pieces are complete, they will be fired and glazed, leaving you with a beautiful and functional painting set that is completely one-of-a-kind.

Woodworking Workshops

Cutting Board Workshop

In this beginner woodworking class students will build a cutting board that is 10" x 14", made out maple and walnut. Participants will learn some basic woodworking skills and walk away with a simple and attractive cutting board that is ready to use at home. At the end of the workshop, students can laser engrave a small design on their board.

Planter Box Workshop

Discover the joy of woodworking in this hands-on, entry-level class! You'll craft a beautiful cedar planter box while learning essential skills with the mitre saw, drill, and table saw.

Along the way, you'll explore how to choose the right materials for your project and gain confidence in working with angles on a table saw.

Perfect for beginners, this class is designed for those with little to no woodworking experience who want to complete a simple yet rewarding project.

Advanced Bandsaw Techniques

This hands-on workshop will unlock the full potential of the bandsaw! Beginning with a brief review of safety, basic principles and procedures, this course will focus on advanced setup and processes.

Appropriate blade selection, and installation, guide set-up and fine-tuning will allow you to cut with control and accuracy. Correcting for blade drift, making and installing a temporary sub-table, setting up and using the tilt table and choosing and setting up the best fence for your needs, will allow you to make and repeat precise and accurate cuts. Making and using a point fence will allow you to control the width of curved cuts and to re-saw thin panels like guitar backs.

Through demos and supervised practice, you’ll build your skills and advanced tool knowledge. Bring a project you're currently working for one-on-one support!

Build a 6-Pack Drink Caddy Workshop

Learn how to make a drink caddy out of wood during this beginner woodworking class. This project will help students practice their beginner skills and provide them with a useful finished piece they can show off this summer.

Students will use the table saw, jig saw, and drill press to create the main pieces as well as a table router, orbital sander and brad nailer to put it all together. They will leave the class with a finished drink caddy that can hold six cans or bottles. The drink caddies will be sanded, but left unfinished (ie. no stain or paint) so students can add their own personal touch to the drink caddy after taking it home.

Artisan Workshops

Join us for an exciting introductory Cricut workshop where we will delve into the world of precision cutting and explore the versatility of vinyl and cardstock with Cricut machines. From intricate designs to personalized decals, this workshop offers hands-on experience to unleash your imagination. 

Participants will navigate through the necessary basics of Cricut Design Space and learn essential techniques for cutting, weeding, and applying vinyl, while also mastering the art of intricate cardstock creations. 

This workshop is geared towards beginners with Cricut and anyone interested to learn. You do not need to own a Cricut to participate and all necessary materials are included. At the end you will walk away with two customized projects - a Stencil-cut bookmark cut out of cardstock, and a vinyl design transferred onto a clear acrylic keychain.

Join us for an intro session on how to design optimal layouts custom to your lifestyle, as well as an intro to basic brush calligraphy. Learn the fundamentals of rapid logging, monthly spreads, habit trackers, and creative page layouts that cater to your unique style and needs. 

Discover the therapeutic benefits of bullet journaling as a means of goal setting, reflection, and overall well-being. Whether you're new to the concept or a seasoned enthusiast, this workshop promises to ignite your creativity and equip you with the skills to transform a blank notebook into a personalized, organized, and inspiring masterpiece.

Zippered Pouch Workshop

Discover the joy of sewing with this beginner-friendly Zippered Pouch Workshop! Learn how to install a zipper into a lined pouch, and how to add fun personal designs with raw edge applique!

Students will choose from a selection of fabrics and applique designs provided by the instructor to make a zippered pouch on a sewing machine, with options to add small personal touches in design and options for adding attachment points for adding your own bag straps. Perfect for small personal items for travelling or daily use.

All materials will be provided for each student to create 1 zippered pouch. No prior sewing experience is required.

Laser Cut Earrings Workshop

Create your very own custom acrylic earrings in our Laser Cut Earrings workshop! This is your chance to bring your jewelry dreams to life, with the guidance of our enthusiastic and experienced instructor. 

Students will choose from shape templates provided by the instructor, with the option to engrave a small design into the surface. All materials will be provided for each student to create one pair of acrylic earrings, from their choice of a selection of colours. Students who would prefer to create a keychain are provided materials as well. 

This workshop is designed for students with no prior experience using laser cutters.

Introduction to Silicone Mold Making

Learn how to make a 1-part mold using Smooth-On silicone. Included in this course is general silicone knowledge, how to build your mold walls, silicone mixing and pouring techniques for bubble-free molds, and jewelers cuts for tall molds.

Students will need to bring an object to be molded that has at least 1 flat side and is no bigger than 2"x2"x2", with no empty spaces that go all the way through the object. This object CANNOT be made of silicone or latex.

Always wanted to try 3D modeling in Blender but not sure where to start? Join us for this hands-on workshop designed for beginners wishing to explore the increasingly popular 3D modeling software.

This 3-hour tutorial will guide you through the essentials of Blender by introducing a medley of versatile tools and functions that you can use to make almost anything you can think of.

By the end of this crash course, you’ll have modeled a simple object, and more importantly, have a solid foundation to continue your 3D modeling journey.

No prior experience required. Just bring your laptop (with Blender pre-installed), a computer mouse, and your desire for creativity!

SketchUp For Furniture Design

Unlock your creativity with our SketchUp for Furniture Design class—a hands-on course designed for all skill levels! Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this class will teach you how to use SketchUp to design custom furniture with precision and confidence.

Through a combination of step-by-step instruction, practical exercises, and real-world projects, you'll master everything from the basics of 3D modeling to advanced design features. You'll gain the skills to bring your ideas to life and effectively communicate your designs.

By the end of the course, you'll be proficient in SketchUp and ready to design furniture and communicate ideas effectively.

Metalworking Workshops

Build Your Own Rocket Stove

In this hands-on class, you'll make your very own rocket stove from mild steel.

You'll learn the physics behind rocket stoves, fibre laser cutting, CO2 laser cutting, protoyping, and metal assembly*.

Students will also have the opportunity to personalize their stove with a custom laser-engraved design. Whether you're a DIY enthusiast, camper, or outdoor cook, this workshop will equip you with a durable rocket stove to take home along with a bundle of starter wood.

No prior experience is necessary - just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!

*Note that the stove is designed to slot together, and students will not be welding.

Policies

Cancellation Policy
Refunds, credits for future classes and orientations, or transferring a ticket to a future date, will only be provided if we are notified by email to hello@makerlabs.com at least 24 hours in advance of the class. For cancellation less than 24 hours before the class, we do not provide a refund, but we do offer a 50% credit towards a future class or orientation. No refunds or credits will be provided for no shows. If transferring a ticket to a future class date, students may only transfer their ticket once before forfeiting their original ticket, even if providing more than 24 hours notice.

Late Policy
We ask that all students arrive 15 minutes before the schedule start of the class so that it can start on time. Attendees arriving more than 5 minutes late will not be allowed in the class.

Age Policy
Children 13 to 18 years old can attend classes with a participating adult. Children must be accompanied by an adult that is trained to use the tools if they wish to use any tools, workshops, and/or spaces after the class.

Want to Run a Workshop at MakerLabs?
We do a 50/50 split of profits between members and MakerLabs for any classes that members run using our tools and spaces. MakerLabs will handle all the promotion and administration of the class as well.
