5% FOR SAFER STREETS

How safe is it for you, or your family, to move around on a bike?

The Strategic Cycling Corridors (SCCs) are the state's plan for a network of safe bike routes across Melbourne and regional centres. But after years of planning only a fraction has been built.

In the 2026 state budget, only $7.5m was provided for active transport--- well short of the $520--660 million over 10 years that Infrastructure Victoria estimates for building just key priorities from the Strategic Cycling Corridors.

It's for this reason that we are partnering with community groups from across Victoria to ask all state election candidates to commit to allocating 5% of transport funding to cycle infrastructure.    This will support the Government's target of 25% of all trips to be walked or cycled by 2030.

Keen to do more? Future actions include discussions with local candidates and MPs; a ride with candidates to visit local opportunities to build better infrastructure. Either send us an email or sign up to our newsletter to stay informed of the next steps.
