{"id":95540,"date":"2019-12-16T14:21:45","date_gmt":"2019-12-16T14:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/?p=95540"},"modified":"2019-12-16T14:21:45","modified_gmt":"2019-12-16T14:21:45","slug":"countryside-students-trial-innovative-training-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/countryside-students-trial-innovative-training-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Countryside students trial innovative training technology"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" id=\"style-css-av-av_hr-48dd840c68c34b08a701e1ed7d6a83fe\">\n#top .hr.hr-invisible.av-av_hr-48dd840c68c34b08a701e1ed7d6a83fe{\nmargin-top:-50px;\nheight:1px;\n}\n<\/style>\n<div  class='hr av-av_hr-48dd840c68c34b08a701e1ed7d6a83fe hr-invisible  avia-builder-el-1  el_after_av_slideshow  el_before_av_textblock '><span class='hr-inner '><span class=\"hr-inner-style\"><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-k48ic9hm-4dba356b606480c83448170dfac7ba51 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Our countryside students have had the privilege of trialling advanced innovative technology from leading power tool manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stihl.co.uk\/\">Stihl<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to our long standing partnership with the company, we were one of the first colleges in the country to use Stihl\u2019s latest training tool, a virtual reality chainsaw simulator.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/further-education\/courses\/forestry-and-arboriculture\/\">Level 3 Diploma Forestry and Arboriculture<\/a> first year students plus Level 2 Countryside and Environment students had the opportunity to try out the immersive experience, which replicates different methods of tree felling including cross cutting and snedding without the use of a \u2018live\u2019 chainsaw.<\/p>\n<p>The system, which involves a head set, chainsaw and computer screen, is particularly suitable for training students who have never previously handled a chainsaw and provided a lot of fun for the whole group.<\/p>\n<p>Stihl Sales Retail Trainer Reuben Wilson, who ran the session with colleague Amanda Patterson, said: \u201cThis has been a very interesting experience which everyone has enjoyed. It has been a great opportunity for us to show students advancements in their industry, particularly in the areas of cordless technology and computer based technology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Level 2 Countryside and Environment student Aidan Moore added: \u201cThe whole session has been very good. It\u2019s a great way to learn about using a chainsaw before using it on an actual job out of doors.
