[REV 25-NOV-2014]

Boston, 1938. "Brighton street scene, from the hill. Commonwealth Avenue at Summit Avenue." 8x10 glass negative, photographer unknown. View full size.
She's standing on what used to be the Summit Ave. stop platform, which was there until "recently" - 2004.
Every single building in that photo, including a funny smokestack and that billboard, are still there. And they don't even look like new buildings in 1938.
Man, Boston's gotta upgrade.
Perhaps it's Cole Porter's "At Long Last Love"
Is it an earthquake or simply a shock?
Is it the good turtle soup or merely the mock?
Is it a cocktail, this feeling of joy?
Or is what I feel the real McCoy?
Is it for all time or simply a lark?
Is it Granada I see or only Asbury Park?
Is it a fancy not worth thinking of?
Or is it at long last love?
The two women leave the apartment building, she knew that this would be her chance to meet Dirk, her forbidden love.
She knew that if Dirk's sisters saw her it would all be over.
Dressed all in black to match her ever changing mood, she waited by the rails of the trolley she had just alighted "I'm too exposed here", she thought, "I hope they don't turn back and see me". But, that was a risk she was willing to take, all in the name of love.
She's thinking, "When's the streetcar going to get here? It's darn cold out!"
What's she thinking. What a haunting photo!
Which kinda makes me happy.
