Nature photography is a calling—a dedication to capturing the intrinsic beauty and quiet inspiration of the natural world. While Trog’s lens embraces all of nature, a profound connection exists with birds and creatures of flight, drawn to their artistry, spirit, and fleeting grace.
Rooted in both nature and landscape photography, Trog’s artistic journey has been shaped by patience, intention, and evolving photographic techniques. The Showcase Galleries present a curated selection of his most representative work—images chosen not simply for their technical excellence, but for their ability to evoke emotion and connection.
These galleries are designed to serve as a visual entry point into Trog’s body of work, inviting you to explore the moments, stories, and natural beauty that define his artistic vision.
Northern Illinois is blessed with an abundance of protected forest preserves, wetlands, and open spaces—quiet sanctuaries where birds, wildlife, and natural beauty thrive just beyond the suburban landscape. These environments offer moments of stillness and wonder, revealing a richness often overlooked in everyday life.
Living in the Fox River Valley of Kane County, Trog has spent years observing and photographing the region’s seasonal rhythms, wildlife, and landscapes. The majority of images in these galleries were captured throughout Kane County and neighboring areas, with select work from Stephenson County, where bald eagles gather along the Mississippi River during winter months.
The Northern Illinois Galleries celebrate the natural character of the region—its birds, waterways, and quiet spaces—inviting viewers to experience the beauty that exists close to home, thoughtfully captured and carefully curated.

Watching raptors command the Illinois skies—riding thermals or hunting for prey—is endlessly captivating. Our state is home to a remarkable diversity of these birds, from soaring buteos and swift accipiters to ospreys, falcons, eagles, harriers, and kites—each with its own presence and power.
Illinois is also home to eight owl species, including the diminutive Northern Saw-whet and the cherished winter arrival, the Short-eared Owl.

Life under the same roof as Golden Retrievers? For a photographer like Trog, that means an abundance of joyful captured moments! These sweet pups were actually the inspiration that pulled him back into photography. With over twenty years of golden blessings, they’re truly family, woven into every part of daily life. It started with one, then came the inevitable thought, “why not get another one to keep our first golden company?!”—and that’s how a family ends up with many delightful goldens through the years.
Be sure to visit the Trog’s Dogs page for some smiles and a healthy dose of golden joy. For heartwarming golden retriever books and greeting cards, you’ll find them in our General Store.
