    The #M66 southbound is closed between #A56 (#Edenfield) and J2 (#Bury) due to collision involving an HGV Lane 2 (of 2) is also closed on the northbound between J2 and J1 due to significant damage to central barrier Delays of 20mins and 2 miles of congestion on the approach

    Traffic is currently being held southbound on the #M66 between J1 (#Ramsbottom) and J2 (#Bury) due to collision involving an HGV. @gmpolice are on scene. Current delays of 45mins and 6 miles of congestion south. 15mins and 2 miles of congestion north. Updates to follow.

    Last year a man was convicted of assaulting two female officers and a male member of the public at Manchester Airport in July 2024. He will be sentenced next month. Two juries have been unable to deliver a verdict relating to alleged assaults on a male officer.

    After careful consideration, the CPS has concluded it is not in the public interest to seek another trial. We will continue to do what we can to support the interests of the officers affected and the public. Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson has provided the above statement:

    We are aware of today’s events in Golders Green in north London. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the incident, particularly those in the Jewish community in that area. The safety of everyone remains our highest priority.

    The Britain First speeches have ended & the majority of the group has already dispersed. Officers continue to safely facilitate the counter-protest group that remains in St. Peter’s Square. Today’s police operation has resulted in just three arrests so far.

    The vast majority of protesters & counter-protesters have now left St. Peter’s Square. Officers have worked with city centre partners to minimise the impact on locals, businesses & visitors. We thank the public for their patience & cooperation throughout the day.
