When ppl say "the woke virus," it reminds me of "drapetomania," during enslavement which meant it was a contagious disease of the nervous system that caused the enslaved to want to run away. In other words, its a disease to say "Stop this injustice& inequity. You're hurting me."

#Tulsa dear @MSNBC @CNN we politely request that out of respect for #Juneteenth and the 99th anniversary of the #TulsaMassacre an American pogrom, that you not air any of the Trump campaign speech not even a clip. To heal our nation we make this request. Enough is enough.

Yeah, I can read without being killed, vote, own property and I'm legally gay married to a (happens to be white) man and I'm Jewish. My New Years gratitude jar is filling up fast. Thanks Madison!

Our Founding Fathers wouldn't recognize the America we live in today. They would be horrified, and rightfully so.

If I had a limited edition spice line of 4 mixtures telling the 400 year story of African American foodways would you buy it?

Looting is uncalled for. So please return the land to the Dakota and neighboring First Nations. Did I lie?

Clarity: When they say "communism" and "socialism," it is a hand me down from the Civil Rights era and it means racial equality, inclusion, integration and "miscegenation." It also means economic justice and equity. It has nothing to do with textbook communism or socialism.

For a Black man that has walked the plank for being highly critical of the food world so white, #AnthonyBourdain was special. He called Africa the cradle of civilization, took his cameras to Haiti, honored the hood with Snoop, broke bread with Obama like a human being...

PLEASE STOP SAYING SOUL FOOD CAME FROM WHITE PEOPLE'S SCRAPS. It's a complete lie that robs us of our agency, ownership, creativity and resistance and shows a lack of critical thinking and cultural literacy. Damn, I wrote a 400 page book about this with 350 books in the bib. 🤬🤬

A great way to honor 2019, the 400th anniversary of African arrival at Jamestown,Virginia. A large portion of my sales go to support people who otherwise could not afford to go on our trips to West Africa. Buy at your local book dealer, B&N, Amazon or Audible. Make this viral!

Matzah Ball Gumbo was conceived by the Black cooks of Southern Ashkenazi Jewish households and represents complex relationships and negotiations from the late 19th century through to today. Its not my innovation, but it is a food tradition that I want to preserve for the future.
