My beloved dad had a terrible stammer which he fought against all his life. In less enlightened times he was turned down for work because of it, and mocked too. Luke Ayling is an inspirational man whose words help build understanding. Needs an apology.

Really feel for this man today. He’s been at the club for almost 40 years now, best chairman in football. Done so much for us. Had to deal with the Wilders and the Monks. And now this. The worst betrayal in football I can think of. Utterly sickening, disgusting, shameful. #UTB

It’s been suggested by some that I am a “drama queen” who is guilty of hyperbole with this post, and that loyalty is dead in football so why expect it. Also that there have been worse betrayals in football. I’m sticking to my guns. Football for me is Boro. Loyalty still matters.

Really poor take. He was hardly working in the Outer Hebrides. And he did know where Middlesbrough was when he signed and proclaimed his undying love to his new “family”. And what about all the 11-year-old football supporters now confused about values like loyalty and respect?
