I've launched this Twitter account @tomorrowsmps to shed light on Britain's Hidden Elections - party selections of candidates for winnable Westminster seats. Selections are important events, yet often go totally un reported. Let's change that. Please DM me with tip-offs & news

Rosie Duffield has survived the Labour trigger ballot process in her Canterbury seat, and is therefore reselected as candidate at the next election, though the announcement hasn't yet been formally made yet.

Strong rumours tonight that CCHQ will tell some candidates tomorrows they're no longer winnable and that they're moving party rescources to a smaller core of still winnable seats as the party flees to higher ground. This could cause fury among candidates and activists.

A point rarely mentioned - if ever - about Lord Alli, is that Matt Faulding, the fixer figure who sorted out scores of Labour selections - and to whom many of the new MPs owe their jobs - did so while on secondment from Lord Alli's office.

It's increasingly clear that Labour's selection processes are unfair, and verge on corrupt. Some contenders get access to local membership lists long before others do, & so can start canvassing much sooner. Sometimes they have lists through being a councillor or party official

Sharron Davies is reportedly one of three new Tory peers, along with journalist Simon Heffer and Conservative treasurer Graham Edwards. All three will get jobs for life, able to help pass or reject laws, and appointed by a secret process with no public scrutiny or election.

My analysis of how Starmer's right-wing team have taken a tight grip on the selection process and excluded almost anyone from the Left:

BROXTOWE: this is the reception a few minutes ago when Greg Marshall turned up at today's Labour selection meeting. He had tried to stand for selection, but was blocked by the NEC panel from the long-list. You can see Marshall's 85-year parents on the front row.

Eddie Izzard has announced she's standing to become Labour candidate for Sheffield Central, to replace retiring Paul Blomfield who had a majority of 27,273 in 2019. Does anyone know of any other contenders for the nomination? Please DM me if you do.

🔴 Oh dear, it seems some of these retiring Labour MPs who had peerages dangled in front of them to encourage give up their seats, didn't know that in its manifesto Labour was about to impose a new age limit for members of the Lords, of 80 at the end of each Parliament.
