We randomly hide toxic content on social media & find a 23% reduction in content consumption on Facebook and a 9% reduction in ad consumption on Twitter (beyond the intervention’s mechanical effect), as well as a decrease in toxicity of content production: mstalinski.net
Figure 2: Average Toxicity of Content Shown to Users During the Study
Note: The figure depicts the average toxicity of posts, comments, and replies shwon to users on each day of the study (relative to when a given participant started), separately for the control group and the treatment group. The dashed line for the treatment group demonstrates the average toxicity of elements that the platforms intended to show to the user before any hiding was applied by the extension. The data presented here encompasses the three supported platforms (Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube). The dashed vertical line ("Intervention start") indicates day 15 - the first day of the Intervention period.

The field of economics has generated powerful insights which have fundamentally shaped the our world, but because of its emphasis on mathematical rigor, some key concepts can be clouded by complexity. That's where Economics for Everyone comes in. @Econ_4_Everyone #E4E

@CunaMichae77590’s JMP studies the hidden curriculum—unwritten rules for success. Combining data and field experiments, he finds first-gen students engage less in key actions, e.g. networking, due to low awareness. Read more: economics.uchicago.edu/directory/mich… #UChicago #EconJobMarket

.@jordanr_k studies spatial & trade economics. His JMP shows how barriers to urban expansion and high commuting costs inhibit development. Reducing urban costs would boost welfare by 66% in low-income nations and help nations adapt to climate change. jrosenthalkay.github.io
