Ease of use: 4.0
Installation is a bit cumbersome. Necessarily so, as SIP (system integrity protection) needs to be disabled. Many features … to the point that they require a bit of work to make use of them.
Reliability: 2.0
It requires that a key security feature (system integrity protection, SIP) is disabled. Not good for reliability of not just the app but the system as a whole.

v. 1.9 working under macOS 27.0 Golden Gate Developer Beta 1, with the exception that Visor mode is quirky (hot key pop up). No activity from developer in several years. I hope he is well

More or less still working under Tahoe 26.2, as of this post. Once every couple of days it requires restarting due to graphical glitches. I could never go back to the days of not having dual pane side by side display. despite having to disable SIP, XF dual pane is superior to all the others (Forklift, Pathfinder, Commander clones). Disabling SIP is not for everyone, personal choice. for the casual non technical user, I wouldn't recommend turning off SIP. If you know what you're doing, are careful with your software sources and have backup strategies, disabling SIP is fine. I know eventually Apple will do something that will break XF completely..., come June 2026 when macOS 27 is announced, and Intel compatibility is no longer needed, I'm sure Apple will rethink the entire Finder architecture and break XF. If developer is still alive, but not able to support, suggest he donate code to open source and let others take a crack at it.

I really like the feature set. But having to disable system integrity protection is a no-go for me.
Not sure how much of the functionality could be made available in a stripped down version that works with SIP enabled.

XtraFinder 1.9 appears to run okay under Tahoe Beta 2, this is on a Apple Silicon mac. No longer have any Intel macs, haven't tested on that. Disabling SIP on TAhoe process is identical to Sonoma/Sequoia (i.e. boot into Recovery mode, open Terminal)

I recently upgraded my 16'' 2019 MacBook Pro to a 14'' 2024 MacBook Pro M4, which necessitated reinstallation of XtraFinder, which couldn't be accomplished by following the instructions in the installer package because the necessary Terminal commands wouldn't run. I emailed Tran Ky Nam and, not unexpectedly, didn't receive a response, so I did some searching and was disappointed to find that it's not possible to disable SIP in Sequoia as is required to install/run XtraFinder. And even worse, when I logged in to MacUpdate to post a comment, I found this at the top of the XtraFinder page: "APPLICATION IS NOT UNDER DEVELOPMENT & NOT SUPPORTED." So long to an old friend! :(
