This is Dr. and Mrs. Zinke…when they were young and in love…and before they went to the temple to make covenants with each other and the Lord.
Well! Read all about our courtship here. From our first date to our wedding: 66 days. I wouldn’t have it any other way. We share the INFJ personality which creates interesting opinions and situations. It’s like living with another version of yourself. Happily married. Equally domesticated. We enjoy playing speed scrabble over a hot bowl of cracked wheat at the breakfast table and cruising along the shore of the lake on our roller blades. Yup, we still ride ’em and we love ’em! We enjoy working out together, doing dishes together, sitting by each other in church, and sleeping together. Life is good and we look forward to our many years together.
I dabble in photography, thoroughly enjoy cooking, and have a green thumb. I studied exercise physiology with in emphasis in fitness and wellness at BYU. No, I never placed a job with this degree, but that wasn’t the point. The education was!
Rick, too, studied at BYU (though our paths never did cross until we had both left BYU behind). He graduated in the Summer of 2010 from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and we moved to Madison for his Residency at the University of Wisconsin. His talents are endless. He’s built a shoe rack for our tiny closest, has been honing his kitchen knife skills, and is great with people. He is a runner and soon to be biker! I am not sure there is anything he can’t do or figure out. He amazes me.
Now we have a wonderful little girl, Bridgette, who is truly our own personal miracle! We are so grateful to our Father in Heaven for the blessing she is and the trial of faith that she represents in our lives. We love her so much.
This blog is simply the events, passions, and thoughts of Vanessa, and infrequently, Rick. (He’s my Editor-In-Chief!) There is no rhyme or reason to any of it. Have a fantastic day!

Hi Vanessa, I am your mom’s cousin. I was talking to her last night and she sent me your blog address. I was reading through it and came across the places Rick is looking to do his residence. I would say Spokane WA is the place to go. Many in our ward are either residences or law students. We have a great city and many places for you to photograph. We also have an area of Spokane that grows lots of produce each year that you can buy picked or you can pick it. We have a river that runs through the middle of town. We live on the south hill in Spokane. Your receipe for the zucchini bread looks yummy and I’m going to try it. I have 4 more huge zucchinis.Your photos are absolutely beautiful. I hope you will consider Spokane. Maybe your mother will come visit me if you are here. 😉
Patty!! I do remember you!
Thank you for your imput on Spokane! We would love to end up there some day. Spokane or Portland. It’s a wild ride, this medical school/residency stuff, but we’re trying to have fun doing it! What city are you in exactly?
Hi There, glad it wasn’t a moose, and that you are both alright. Sorry about your car. I discovered your Blog on about page 9 of Gingerbread Houses, GoogleImages…while sitting at home in Plainfield, VT. Tomorrow is my day off and I am making 9 gingerbread houses for my daughter(16) and 8 of her co-ed friends to decorate at a party here Sat. I mentioned my upcoming house making marathon to another mom at the Green Mountain Youth Synphony Holiday Concert sunday, and she lent me a stone baking dish that is half the house with imprints, very cute. You bake two of them and then put them together with icing cement.
Not as much fun as totally from scratch probably, but fast and consistent. Merry Christmas to you both, and may the blessing of Christ be with you this Holiday Season. Safe travels home. Thanks for the blog and the icing recipe.
Dear Vanessa,
I am the newly called YW Pres. from the Potsdam District in Northern
N.Y. Our young women were wanting to go have girls camp at the
Joseph Smith Camp in Sharon Vt. I have been having trouble getting
a phone number to see if anything is available. We are small in
number over on this side of Lake Champlain, but big in pioneer
spirit.
Thank you for any help.

I am on that, Marla!
