About

My name is Juan Manuel Contreras. I received my PhD in psychology from Harvard University, where I was trained as a neuroscientist. Currently, I work as senior data scientist of the Democratic National Committee.

I started this blog to argue that neuroscience commentators (journalists and scientists) too often make too much of too little; they take neuroscience studies with specific, tentative findings and draw general, confident inferences about psychology (how we act, feel, and think) that are unwarranted by the data.

This blog is a call for epistemic humility on the part of neuroscience commentators.

I have also written about my extracurricular data science projects at Data Pie and I am currently writing about my effort to program a Monopoly simulator at Python Monopoly.
