Nomic University
Nomic University
A short course on using AI in project delivery: reviewing drawings and BIM models, answering submittals and RFIs, and researching project files, with a citation you can open at every step.
Syllabus
Two modules, thirteen lessons, in order. Each is one idea, an example from project work, and a short quiz. Most take five to ten minutes.
Module 1
6 lessons
AI Foundations
How models behave, where they fail, what they cost, and what they can see. These apply to any AI tool.
- 1How AI models workThe same question can get a differently worded answer. Compare the evidence, not the wording.InteractiveQuiz
- 2Hallucination and limitationsA confident sentence is not a source. Open the citation.InteractiveQuiz
- 3Tokens, effort, and costWhat a token is, and how to read a spend estimate before you run.InteractiveQuiz
- 4ContextThe agent works only from what it can see. Scope the session first.InteractiveQuiz
- 5ToolsHow the agent finds information for itself, and what that costs.Product demoQuiz
- 6Agents and sub-agentsHow a drawing review splits into sub-agents, and what stays with you.Product demoQuiz
Module 2
7 lessons
Working with Nomic
Briefing the agent, setting up a project, reviewing drawings, answering submittals and RFIs, and turning a prompt into a workflow the team runs.
- 1Working with the Nomic agentName the files, define a finding, name the output.InteractiveProduct demoQuiz
- 2Understanding your projectSet up project context so the agent can find what it needs.InteractiveProduct demoQuiz
- 3Reviewing drawingsThe four steps of a drawing review, and how to read the findings.Product demoQuiz
- 4Submittals, RFIs, and codesCheck a submittal against the spec, answer an RFI, and check a design against code.Product demoQuiz
- 5Verifying resultsCheck findings quickly and keep the record straight.Product demoQuiz
- 6Building workflowsTurn a prompt that works into a workflow the team runs.InteractiveQuiz
- 7Putting it all togetherOne project, start to finish, from three seats.Product demo
Where to start, by role
Read it all if you can. With twenty minutes:
- Architect or designer of record: Hallucination and limitations, then Reviewing drawings and Verifying results.
- Engineer: Context, then Reviewing drawings for cross-discipline coordination and Verifying results.
- Contractor, project engineer, or project manager: Understanding your project, then Submittals, RFIs, and codes.
- QA/QC or standards lead: Agents and sub-agents, then Building workflows.
- Admin or IT rolling out Nomic: Tokens, effort, and cost, then Admin setup.
Step-by-step reference is in Docs. This course covers why; Docs covers where to click.
Who it is for
Architects, engineers, general contractors and their project teams, owner's reps, and QA/QC leads. Each lesson works from any of those seats. Examples use Nomic, and the ideas apply to any AI tool on a project. The course does not cover how models are trained.
Three ways to review a set
Consider a drawing set about to go out at a milestone, whether you drew it, engineered part of it, or will build from it:
- Red pen. Free, slow, and dependent on who is reviewing.
- Checklists and a Bluebeam tool set. Some setup, more consistent, limited by how many sheets one person can read.
- AI review. Priced per sheet, and the most efficient of the three when the scope is set well and the findings are checked.
Each option trades time, money, consistency, and effort. This course shows how to get the most from the third one.
