Font DNA
Measured from the outlines of this family's styles, and placed against every font in the directory.
- X-height 0.55 em
- Taller than 82% of the catalogue. How tall the lowercase is. A large x-height reads well at small sizes.
- Cap height 0.73 em
- Taller than 73% of the catalogue. How tall the capitals are, measured from the baseline.
- Stroke contrast 14%
- More contrast than 30% of the catalogue. The difference between the thick and thin strokes. Flat strokes read as modern; high contrast reads as classical.
- Width 0.52 em
- Wider than 53% of the catalogue. How much horizontal room a character takes. Narrow faces fit more words to the line.
- Weight 0.09 em
- Heavier than 56% of the catalogue. How thick the stems are. This is the measured weight, not the name on the file.
- Ink density 43%
- Denser than 52% of the catalogue. How much of each character’s box is ink. Dense faces look darker in a paragraph.

SIL OPEN FONT LICENSE Version 1.1 - 26 February 2007 PREAMBLE The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership with others. The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded, redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives, however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives. DEFINITIONS "Font Software" refers to the set of files released by the Copyright Holder(s) under this license and clearly marked as such. This may include source files, build scripts and documentation. "Reserved Font Name" refers to any names specified as such after the copyright statement(s). "Original Version" refers to the collection of Font Software components as distributed by the Copyright Holder(s). "Modified Version" refers to any derivative made by adding to, deleting, or substituting — in part or in whole — any of the components of the Original Version, by changing formats or by porting the Font Software to a new environment. "Author" refers to any designer, engineer, programmer, technical writer or other person who contributed to the Font Software. PERMISSION & CONDITIONS Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of the Font Software, to use, study, copy, merge, embed, modify, redistribute, and sell modified and unmodified copies of the Font Software, subject to the following conditions: 1) Neither the Font Software nor any of its individual components, in Original or Modified Versions, may be sold by itself. 2) Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled, redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user. 3) No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as presented to the users. 4) The name(s) of the Copyright Holder(s) or the Author(s) of the Font Software shall not be used to promote, endorse or advertise any Modified Version, except to acknowledge the contribution(s) of the Copyright Holder(s) and the Author(s) or with their explicit written permission. 5) The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole, must be distributed entirely under this license, and must not be distributed under any other license. The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply to any document created using the Font Software. TERMINATION This license becomes null and void if any of the above conditions are not met. DISCLAIMER THE FONT SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT OF COPYRIGHT, PATENT, TRADEMARK, OR OTHER RIGHT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, INCLUDING ANY GENERAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE FONT SOFTWARE OR FROM OTHER DEALINGS IN THE FONT SOFTWARE.
Use on the web
Download the web kit to self-host Spline Sans. It has a fonts/ folder with a WOFF2 for each face, and this stylesheet as spline-sans.css. Its URLs point into the kit's fonts/ folder, so copy that folder and the stylesheet next to your pages together.
@font-face {
font-family: "Spline Sans";
src: url("fonts/spline-sans.woff2") format("woff2");
font-weight: 300 700;
font-style: normal;
font-display: swap;
}
/* Sized to match, so the page does not shift when the webfont loads.
Delete this block and the "Fallback" entry in font-family if you
do not want it. */
@font-face {
font-family: "Spline Sans Fallback";
src: local("Arial");
size-adjust: 105.2%;
ascent-override: 91.59%;
descent-override: 22.48%;
line-gap-override: 0%;

Kerning
Kerning coverage
Kerns — of 66 curated pairs.
No kerning found for any of the 66 curated pairs — this font leaves every one of them at its default spacing.
Measuring this font in your browser…
This font could not be loaded here, so its kerning coverage was not measured.
Coverage counts the pairs this font kerns at all — not how well it kerns them.
Numerals: — of 6 kerned, excluded from the score — figures are usually unkerned by design.
At small sizes
Regular, rasterised at 10, 12, 14 and 16px with hinting on and off. Hinting is what a Windows or Linux reader sees; macOS largely ignores it.
Where it behaves differently
Read from the file itself. Anything not listed here has nothing about it worth warning you over.
-
Variable font (wght)
Anything older than Safari 11, Chrome 62 or Firefox 62 ignores the axes and renders the default instance, which is a usable static font rather than a failure. Print workflows and older design software often do the same.
-
No hinting instructions
Windows at small sizes leans on hinting, so text below about 14px can look softer or unevenly spaced there. macOS ignores hinting almost entirely and will look the same either way. The proof above shows what this font does at those sizes.
Health
The font covers 115 of 128 Latin Extended-A characters, used by Central European languages such as Polish, Czech and Hungarian, so text in those languages will mix fonts.

Font managers link to the font's maker from name ID 11. Only the font's author can supply it.
Vendor URL
These glyphs have no Unicode mapping and no OpenType feature substitutes them in, so no text can ever show them. They only add file size.

Identical outlines are sometimes intentional (Latin A and Greek Alpha, for example) but can also be copy mistakes. Component references would save space.

About
Spline Sans is a grotesque sans serif typeface family, purpose-built for UI interfaces, checkout processes, and paragraphs of text. Space efficiency is accomplished by condensing traditional grotesque proportions. The cool and restrained tone is accented with strategic "thorn" traps, which blossom into view when set at larger sizes.
Spline Sans is an original typeface initiated by the Spline Team, and designed by Eben Sorkin and Mirko Velimirović, with project management by Faride Mereb, testing and design feedback by Gonçalo Teixeira, and concept by Alejandro León.
Spline Sans supports an extended Latin glyph set, enabling the typesetting of English, Western, Central and Eastern European languages.
