A SMALL EDIT YOU CAN VERIFY
Change the input.
Follow the result.
The example is a fictional sales workbook, with formulas you can inspect rather than a picture of a spreadsheet.
Sales!B5 Units
20 30Sales!D8 Total revenue
655 775Try it in the workbook. This is the expected result, not a live calculation on this page.- 01
Open the example above
Choose the Sales tab and select B5. The formula bar shows the input; D5 uses B5 × C5.
- 02
Enter 30 and press Enter
The first product increases from 240 to 360. SUM(D5:D7) should change the overall total to 775.
- 03
Export, then reopen
Use Download XLSX in the workspace. Open the new file and inspect D8 and its formula before closing your working tab.
CALCULATION AND APPEARANCE ARE DIFFERENT CHECKS
A working formula is more useful than a perfect-looking screenshot.
For a quick edit, compare the original inputs, the dependent formula, and the saved result. Multiple worksheets, SUMIFS, simple native charts, preset dropdowns and formula-based conditional formatting were exercised in our own small-business template workbooks. That is evidence for those examples, not support for every Excel function.
Bank connections, VBA execution and cloud collaboration are outside this editor. A workbook with unsupported functions or external dependencies may need its usual spreadsheet application. Do not treat a plausible displayed total as proof of correct recalculation.
WHEN SOMETHING LOOKS WRONG
Keep the edit. Diagnose the right layer.
- The workspace is still loading
- The editor application must arrive before it can read a workbook. Leave the tab open while it loads. An application-load error offers Try again; an input-file error offers a separate retry or another file. A blank loading screen does not mean the workbook is corrupt.
- A formula returns an error or an unexpected number
- Inspect its formula bar, input types and referenced sheets. Compare a known total with the original. Unsupported functions are not repaired by exporting a second time.
- My changes disappeared after a refresh
- There is no automatic cloud recovery. Download the revised XLSX before closing or refreshing. The source file on your disk is not overwritten.
- The file is too large
- The site accepts up to 20 MB. That is an entry limit, not a guarantee for every complex workbook. Reduce unnecessary sheets or export a simpler copy in your original application.
CHOOSE THE WORKFLOW
A local edit, a shared workbook, or a desktop job?
Product documentation checked 17 October 2026. These are documented workflows, not a head-to-head fidelity benchmark.
| Application | For this task | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| ExcelCraft | Edit a local file without an account or workbook upload. | Keep changes by exporting a new XLSX; no automatic recovery. |
| Excel for the web ↗ | Microsoft documents browser calculations and automatic saving. | Feature behavior can differ from desktop Excel; consult its workbook limits. |
| Google Sheets ↗ | Import an Excel workbook into a sheet. | Import options include a new spreadsheet or replacement of existing content. |
| LibreOffice Calc ↗ | Open an XLS or XLSX in the installed application. | Use Save As to select a Microsoft Office output format. |
ANSWERS FOR THIS FILE
Before you commit that change.
Can I edit without an account?
Yes. File contents are processed in this browser. Optional account preferences do not provide workbook backup or synchronization.
Will a formula remain editable after export?
Check the exported copy. Our tested formulas remain live in the supported examples, but advanced functions and workbook objects are not universally preserved. Inspect the formula text as well as its result.
Can I work offline?
An internet connection is needed to load the site and engine. Offline reopening is not guaranteed. Download a copy rather than relying on a tab remaining available.
Is this Microsoft Excel?
No. ExcelCraft uses the open-source GridCraft engine. It is useful for bounded spreadsheet tasks and does not replace every desktop Excel feature.
CONTINUE WITH A WORKBOOK
Give the next edit a purpose.
