Where the Ghostface AI trend came from
The photo. Know Your Meme lists an Instagram post by the user cortneydryden on September 25, 2025 as the earliest known example (the site says it may not be the first). It shows a woman on the phone in a Y2K bedroom with the masked killer in the doorway behind her.
The spread. The next day, TikTok creator @keepingupwithmuva posted a compilation of the photos that passed 2.7 million views in four days. By September 28, a parody of the figure stealing @ashleynicole6454's popcorn had more than 770,000 views. Most clips use a remix of "Deceptacon", the opening track of Le Tigre's 1999 debut album.
The tool. Almost everyone made their photo in Google Gemini. A month earlier, on August 26, 2025, Google had added its new image model, nicknamed Nano Banana, to the Gemini app, and its launch post stressed one thing: keeping a person's likeness the same from one edit to the next. That is what the trend needs: you upload a selfie, paste a prompt, and still look like yourself in a 1998 bedroom. People traded prompts in TikTok tutorials, which is why so many photos share the same satin bedding and see-through phone.
The film behind it. The whole look borrows from Scream (1996), written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Wes Craven. Its opening has Drew Barrymore's character home alone, answering the phone to a stranger, which is why a corded phone is in nearly every trend photo. Ghostface is the disguise the killers wear across the franchise, and the trend returned in 2026 after Scream 7 reached cinemas on February 27.
Scream, Ghostface and the Ghost Face mask are trademarks of their owners. This site is an independent tool for the social media trend, is not affiliated with the films or the mask's owners, and its photos use a generic masked figure.
4 scenes in every pack, shot by shot
Late-90s slasher look: on-camera flash, heavy grain, faded colours and an orange date stamp. All four scenes come from the same selfie, in 3:4 portrait.

1 · Bedroom phone call
You lie on a messy bed twisting the cord of a see-through phone, a little worried. Fairy lights, posters, a lava lamp, a glowing TV. In the dark doorway behind you, the masked figure in a long black hooded robe just watches.
2 · Mirror selfie
Pink bathroom tiles, a silver digital camera, a playful face. The flash flares in the mirror, and right behind your shoulder the white mask looks straight at the lens.
3 · Couch and TV
You laugh on a floral couch with popcorn, lit only by a TV showing static. Behind the sofa, by the blinds, the figure leans in close.
4 · Hallway
Patterned wallpaper, family photos, a cordless phone. You glance back, startled, as the figure at the far end raises one hand in a slow wave.
The Ghostface AI video version

Add the video and your bedroom phone call comes alive. About 8 seconds, vertical 9:16, with eerie sound, ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
The video, second by second
Each one differs a little, but it runs like this:
- 0 to 3 s: you talk quietly on the phone.
- 3 to 5 s: you slowly turn your head.
- 5 to 7 s: the figure tilts its head and lifts one gloved hand in a slow wave.
- 7 to 8 s: you freeze, eyes wide, the light flickers, and a music sting ends the clip.
Sound: a low drone, phone-line hiss and the sting. No weapons, no gore.

- Face the camera, head and shoulders in frame.
- Good light. The grain is added later, so start sharp.
- No sunglasses or beauty filters.
- Groups: one photo, 2 to 4 people, every face visible.
What goes wrong, and how to fix it
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| It does not look like me | Dark, blurry or side-on selfie | Use a sharp, front-facing photo in good light |
| A friend is missing in the group photo | Face too small or half hidden | Crop closer so every face is clear |
| Gemini refuses the prompt | Naming the film character can trigger a block | Describe a generic masked figure, as our free prompts do |
Song, caption and hashtags
Use a "Deceptacon" remix from the sound library, post the video first and the four photos as a carousel, and try a caption like "pov: you answered the phone in 1998". Hashtags: #ghostfaceai #ghostfacetrend #y2k #halloween.

What is the Ghostface AI trend?
It is a viral photo trend that took off in late September 2025 and is back for Halloween 2026: people turn a normal selfie into a grainy late-90s horror-movie still, usually lying on a bed and talking on a corded phone while a masked figure in a black hooded robe stands in the doorway behind them. It spread through Google Gemini (Nano Banana) prompts on TikTok and Instagram Reels. Read the full story.
What do I get?
The photo pack is 4 photos of you in 4 scenes: the bedroom phone call, a mirror selfie with the figure behind you, the couch with the TV glowing, and the dark hallway. The video pack adds a short vertical spooky video (about 8 seconds, with sound) made for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
How long does it take?
The 4 photos are usually ready in 1 to 2 minutes. The video takes about 3 to 5 minutes more. You can keep the page open and watch the progress.
Will it still look like me?
Yes. Every scene is made from your own photo with an image model that keeps your face, hair and skin tone. Use a clear, well-lit photo with your face looking at the camera for the best match.
Can I do it with my partner or friends?
Yes. Choose "Couple or friends" and upload one photo with everyone in it. Everyone ends up in the scene together. See the couples version.
Can I make it for free?
Yes, with Gemini and our free prompts. Our Ghostface AI prompt page has every prompt we use, ready to copy. This site is for people who want the full 4-scene pack and the video in one go, with no prompt fiddling and no watermark.
Is this the official Scream or Ghostface?
No. This is an independent tool for the social media trend. We do not use the film's mask, stills or logos. The figure in your photos is a generic masked character in a black hooded robe.
Is it a subscription?
No. You pay once per pack. If the photos cannot be made, you get your money back automatically.
What happens to my photo?
Your photo is used only to make your pack. We never sell it or use it to train AI, and we delete uploads after 30 days. More on safety and privacy.
Who started the Ghostface AI trend?
Nobody knows for certain. Know Your Meme lists an Instagram post from September 25, 2025 as the earliest known example, and a TikTok compilation posted the next day passed 2.7 million views in four days. The full story.
