Designed for IRC

Modern where it matters. Still unmistakably IRC.

Mango handles the protocol depth underneath so conversation stays calm, quick, and readable.

Modern IRC

The IRC you know, with the capabilities you expect.

SASL authentication, server time, message tags, batches, history, replies, and bouncer-aware connections. Mango negotiates support with each network instead of pretending every server is the same.

Apple native

One client across Mac, iPhone, and iPad.

Native chat rendering, keyboard navigation on Mac, and adaptive layouts on iPhone, iPad, and iPhone Duo. Networks and selected settings sync through iCloud.

Customise

A quieter palette, or entirely new abilities.

Choose built-in palettes or install free themes. Mango 3.1 includes sandboxed Grove extensions with explicit permissions, keeping customisation visible and under your control.

Media in the conversation

Images, video, and audio stay with the message.

Rich link previews, inline video and YouTube playback, audio waveforms, custom emoji, and image-link stickers. Choose plain URLs when you prefer no remote fetching. Mango Uploads adds a file library with a Mango Account.

Find your place

Search, mentions, threads, and pins.

Search retained messages, jump between matches, collect mentions, and follow reply threads. Keep useful messages pinned on compatible servers. History and push depend on your server or bouncer and setup.

Story

Same name, same citrus. Nothing else carries over.

Mango first shipped in 2012, written in Objective-C and OpenGL for a very different Mac. It remained on the App Store for fourteen years while the platform changed around it.

Mango 3 started again from first principles. A new Swift and SwiftUI app, a reusable IRC engine, and modern IRCv3 support. The legacy code stayed behind; the name, the colour, and the affection for IRC did not.
