the ultimate question we find ourselves asking three people with good intentions…

the ultimate question we find ourselves asking

three people with good intentions get access to enough money to start a game fund (and answer to one dude). what could go wrong? probably a lot, especially since our whole idea is to see if we can get games made without all the bullshit. big dreams of changing shitty standards admittedly seems a bit naive, but we need to try. we also haaaaattteeeeee GenAI, just so you know exactly where we stand. so yeah, that’s us. your phantom friends, silent partners who don’t care to be seen.

what you’ll find in these newsletters:

where we’ve been & where to find us next

what we’ve collected

things we think are cool

folks we think are neat

you didn’t answer the question

we didn’t think it really mattered who we are, but then we received a really great email from an industry peer that was like, why the hell would people send you confidential shit without knowing who tf you are? so fair.

we hail from the smoldering remains of a short-lived indie publisher. it turns out publishing games is hard when you’re new, and traditional games marketing is so much less effective than it used to be (hot take, we know). we got our start in tech, digital art, games marketing and content creation (GitHub, EA, Ubisoft, Twitch) and are now in charge of handing out checks to games we think should get made.

if you still don’t believe we are real people, we do have a linkedin page you can stalk. we don’t pay for premium so we won’t even know you looked.

hey devs

who do we want to work with? we want to partner with developers who have been together for a game (or three) and are motivated to go the self publishing route. heavy on studios that understand what it actually takes to get a game out the door, and want to retain creative control over their team and their projects.

we are also open to co-funding opportunities with other funders, publishers or grants. it’s our perspective that more help is a good thing. but, they really need to align with our strong opinions on how developers deserve to be treated, and yeah, they should also not be down for AI.

but what is low light…

great question. it’s something we made up. a valuable lesson learned: picking games with a through line makes telling people about them a little easier. and at some point we realized that a lot of the games we gravitated towards had something in common, a dark visual aesthetic. games that take place at night, in dungeons, through space or in the shadows. we also love that dark games tend to deal with dark themes like a murder mystery, a world on the brink of collapse, or a journey through grief and self discovery. that shit rocks and leaves you with a lasting impression. and so, low light games was born.

[we didn’t have a single thing to do with any of these games but we love ‘em]

do you have a game?

if you’re still here, hell yeah. hopefully we share some things in common. and if you’re a dev who aligns with our views and has a low light game, pitch us.

this is said in all caps and bolded: we are not a publisher. you will immediately capture more of our attention if you format your pitch deck with that in mind. if you need publishing services, account for that in your budget. and if you don’t, then we’ll assume you can’t read good.
