WHY IT EXISTS

Install packages by extension name

Package names differ across systems. PIG selects the name for your host and PostgreSQL version.

ONE EXTENSION

Different systems, different package names

  • pgvector on EL: pgvector_18
  • On Debian / Ubuntu: postgresql-18-pgvector
  • The package name also depends on the PostgreSQL major version

ONE INSTALL COMMAND

pig install vector -v 18

  • PIG detects the operating system and CPU architecture
  • It selects the package for your PostgreSQL version
  • It uses apt or dnf to resolve dependencies and install

You can also use the Pigsty repositories with apt or dnf directly. PostgreSQL runs without a PIG service.

SCRIPTS AND AGENTS

Inspect commands and read structured results

Use JSON help to inspect arguments, output support, and confirmation requirements. Recovery workflows also provide plans that scripts and agents can inspect before execution.
