Email sender logos in Gmail and other inboxes

A sender logo is a brand image that a mailbox provider may show beside an email in the message list or message view. It can help recipients recognise the organisation sending the message, but the mailbox provider decides whether, where and how any image appears.

BIMI, Gmail profile images and provider behaviour

Brand Indicators for Message Identification, or BIMI, lets a domain publish a logo reference in DNS. BIMI is separate from the profile image attached to a Google account or Gmail address. A profile image may be used in some Google contexts, while BIMI is designed for authenticated email sent from a domain.

Mailbox providers apply their own eligibility rules, security checks, interface choices and caching. Support also varies between providers and apps. Publishing a profile image or BIMI record does not require a provider to display it, and the same message may appear differently to different recipients.

Why DMARC and domain authentication matter

BIMI builds on authenticated email. SPF identifies services permitted to send for a domain, DKIM adds a domain-linked signature, and DMARC evaluates authenticated identifiers against the visible From domain and applies the domain owner's policy. Use the Sensorpro SPF, DKIM and DMARC checker to review published records, then read the DMARC and email deliverability guide before changing DNS.

Authentication supports domain trust, but neither authentication nor a displayed logo guarantees inbox placement.

Practical preparation steps

  1. List every legitimate service that sends email for the domain.
  2. Confirm that SPF and DKIM are correctly configured for those services.
  3. Introduce and monitor DMARC with the person responsible for the domain's DNS.
  4. Prepare a logo in the format required by the intended BIMI implementation.
  5. Publish and test the relevant records, then allow for DNS and provider caching.
  6. Check results in more than one supported mailbox rather than relying on a single test account.

Why a sender logo may not appear

What Sensorpro can help with

Sensorpro can help customers review the sending-domain records used with Sensorpro and explain the authentication steps relevant to their setup. Sensorpro cannot control a recipient's mailbox interface or guarantee that Gmail or another provider will display a logo. A broader sender reputation check can help place authentication in the context of other delivery signals.
