I wanted to stop controllers calling external services, however deep in the call graph. So I built a PHPStan extension: mark external calls as 'slow', forbid 'slow' in controllers, and let it flag violations. Probably has many other uses too.

I'm back from an excellent few days at Confoo, where I gave two talks. One on testing, the other on custom PHPStan rules. There were many other amazing talks and lots of interesting hallway chats. Along with Mount Royal at night. A walk in the snow. And Canada's best Poutine.
