If you run sovereign cloud or production AI infrastructure on OpenStack, your architectural experience belongs on stage at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe. The CFP for Open Sovereign AI + Cloud Day closes this weekend on October 18. Share your production architectures and operational lessons with the cloud native community. Submit your session before the deadline: https://lnkd.in/gkRGbauM #OpenStack
About us
OpenStack is an open source software project Hosted by the OpenInfra Foundation for creating private and public clouds. Over 300 OpenStack-powered public cloud data centers and thousands of private clouds at a scale of more than 40 million physical cores span the world. Since launching in 2010, OpenStack has become one of the top four most active open source projects. What OpenStack software does: OpenStack is an open source cloud platform that provides APIs to orchestrate bare metal, virtual machine and container resources on a single network. The same OpenStack code powers a global network of public and private clouds, backed by the largest ecosystem of technology providers, to enable cost savings, control and portability. Learn more at http://www.openstack.org/software. Why open matters: All of the code for OpenStack is freely available under the Apache 2.0 license. Anyone can run it, build on it, or submit changes back to the project. We strongly believe that an open development model is the only way to foster badly-needed cloud standards, remove the fear of proprietary lock-in for cloud customers, and create a large ecosystem that spans cloud providers. OpenStack Users: OpenStack has thousands of users worldwide across industries including financial services, telecom, retail, manufacturing, internet and ecommerce companies. Find OpenStack user stories at http://www.openstack.org/users. For more information and to join the community, visit www.OpenStack.org/join and join the conversation in our OpenStack LinkedIn Group. Join us at events: Each year, the OpenInfra Foundation and community members around the world host global Summits and regional events to help support and grow the community. ALASCA Summit 2026: More insights from the OpenInfra Track 🚀 How do we build scalable cloud infrastructure, rethink established virtualization approaches and turn open source ideas into production-ready solutions? These are some of the questions addressed in the OpenInfra Track at the ALASCA Summit, featuring practical experiences and new perspectives on open cloud technologies. Here are three more talks to look forward to: 🔹 Building a scalable alternative to Hyperscale Clouds Christoph Streit, CEO at ScaleUp Technologies GmbH & Co. KG, will present a multi-region IaaS cloud built in Germany with Open Compute Project hardware, open source technologies and the Sovereign Cloud Stack. The talk explores how this approach can provide a scalable alternative to hyperscale clouds and serve as a blueprint for private cloud deployments. 🔹 From VMware to OpenStack: Rethinking Virtualization Michel R., Cloud Solution Architect at B1 Systems, will take a practical look at moving from VMware to OpenStack. What changes when familiar concepts such as vMotion, Distributed Switches and vCenter no longer work in the same way? The talk covers migration strategies, technical alternatives and the lessons organizations need to consider along the way. 🔹 From Hackathon to Production – A Community Success Story Michelle Fuchs, CEO and Founder at Pacifico Digital Explorations GmbH, and Martin Pilka, CEO at dNation - MAKING CLOUD EASY, will share how an idea from the ALASCA Hackathon 2025 grew into a production application for OpenStack resource reporting and billing. Their story highlights how trust, shared problem-solving and collaboration can turn a community project into a lasting open source solution. Great to have you on the OpenInfra Track, Christoph, Michel, Michelle and Martin! 👋 📅 3-4 November 2026 📍 Mighty Twice Hotel Dresden 👉 Find the registration link in the comments. #alascacloud #alascasummit26 #openinfra #openstack #opensource

OpenStack Hibiscus shipped last week: https://lnkd.in/gqWRSVcs As Technical Committee chair, I watch hundreds of contributors I've never met in person collaborate across time zones. They're reviewing a stranger's patch, triaging a vulnerability, chasing a test that fails once in fifty runs, or patiently explaining to a newcomer how we do things here. None of this is glamorous, but all of it is why this software remains foundational. 34 releases (sixteen years!) in, the community still moves me more than a feature list could. If you've contributed to OpenStack in any way, thank you! And if you haven't yet, the next cycle is a good time to start: https://lnkd.in/gkz-qvd5 #OpenStack #OpenSource

Digital sovereignty isn't an abstract idea; it's running in production today across European OpenStack clouds. Organizations across Europe need cloud infrastructure that guarantees complete data control, operational independence, and vendor neutrality. Open source infrastructure makes this possible by providing transparent code bases and open standards that put operators back in control. The OpenInfra track at the ALASCA Summit 2026 in Dresden, Germany will focus on how open source projects power digitally sovereign clouds. Happening November 3-4, this track brings together cloud operators, system administrators, and open source leaders to share practical insights, production deployments, and technical strategies. Discover how OpenStack forms the foundation for secure, vendor neutral cloud platforms and connect with the community driving European cloud independence. OpenStack 2026.2 Hibiscus advances confidential computing and security while expanding support for accelerated, high-performance AI workloads and improving infrastructure efficiency at scale. As the infrastructure layer of the open source AI stack, this 34th release turns heterogeneous hardware into programmable compute, storage, and networking resources under full operator control. To meet rising AI demands, Hibiscus introduces hardware-backed memory encryption using AMD SEV-SNP and Intel TDX in Nova, expands mediated device management for vGPUs, and adds Manila support for Weka and Lustre parallel filesystems. At scale, operators gain a 15-fold reduction in Neutron HA router monitoring memory footprint alongside responsive workload consolidation in Watcher and parallel image imports in Glance. Thank you to the almost 600 contributors who helped build this release! Explore the release highlights and download OpenStack Hibiscus: https://lnkd.in/egFvV3qz #OpenStack
