The activist-to-wonk ratio in AI safety is too low. The purpose of this bill is to fix that ratio. I know it's DOA.

The leaders of the AI industry acknowledge that they are building a dangerous technology that they can’t control. We need an immediate global PAUSE on advanced AI development before it’s too late. That is why I am introducing legislation to do just that.

It’d have been easy enough for Bernie to become an anti datacenter guy. The focus on development itself is not yet in the popular zeitgeist. But also on other topics (like socializing health insurance) Bernie’s long been comfortable getting ahead of the crowd.

I know ASI is inevitable, but it also seems negative EV so I support anything that slows it down, such as this bill.
