IT 101: What is Ransomware? Ransomware is malicious software that: - Infiltrates your systems (often through phishing emails) - Encrypts your valuable data - Holds it hostage until you pay a ransom The reality: Paying doesn't guarantee you'll get your data back, and it makes you a target for future attacks. Want to learn how to defend your organization? Check out this week’s blog on ransomware readiness! #DEVsource #technologysolutions #techtips #technology #ManagedIT

The biggest names in tech just signed a letter about protecting critical infrastructure. Our CEO, Mike Hopkins has some thoughts on who actually does that work.
Last week, OpenAI published an open letter and over 100 companies signed it (Microsoft, Google, Anthropic, CrowdStrike, Cisco, AWS, etc). The letter warns that AI-enabled cyberattacks are about to get faster and more sophisticated, and it specifically calls out hospitals, water systems and other critical infrastructure as the biggest targets. I read the whole thing. Then I read the signatory list. Not one MSP on it. The fact is, when a small-town utility or a 40-person manufacturer gets hit at 2 a.m., it's not a frontier AI lab that shows up. It's companies like ours. We've spent 25 years being the ones who answer that call, and that's not changing because the attacks got smarter. Here's the part of the letter that didn't make the headlines: most of what makes these attacks work isn't new at all. Unpatched software. Weak authentication. Excessive permissions. Technical debt that's been accumulating for years. AI doesn't invent new doors, it just finds the unlocked ones a whole lot faster. The good news? The same AI advances give defenders a real window to fix weaknesses that have piled up for years. But that window doesn't stay open forever. So here's my ask, whether you work with us or not: - Make cybersecurity a leadership conversation, not just an IT line item - Patch what's unpatched (yes, that server everyone's afraid to touch) - Turn on MFA everywhere. Everywhere. - If you don't know your current security posture, be honest about it and go find out Honest answers about where you stand aren't a weakness. They're the first step to a fix. That's how we've always done things here, and it's never mattered more than it does right now. The big names wrote the letter. Somebody local has to do the work. #Cybersecurity #MSP #CriticalInfrastructure #SmallBusiness #AI

Congratulations to our friends at Sportable Scoreboards on an incredible 40 years in business! Sportable has been a valued DEVsource client for more than 20 of those years, making this milestone especially meaningful to our team. We’ve had the privilege of working alongside them through countless projects and watching their company continue to grow and evolve. DEVsource CEO Mike Hopkins reflected on what that long relationship has meant: “We would like to congratulate Sportable Scoreboards on their 40th anniversary. They are our longest-running client relationship and one that we treasure. We’ve had an opportunity to be involved in many projects over the years, and it has always felt like a partnership rather than a customer relationship. Congratulations to Mike Cowen and the rest of the Sportable team!” Congratulations to everyone at Sportable Scoreboards, past and present, on four decades of hard work and success. We’re proud to have been part of the journey and look forward to what comes next.

REPORT CARD: Grade Your IT Provider Be honest. What grade would your current IT provider earn? - Response time: A (hours) or F (days)? - Proactive check-ins: Yes — or only after emergencies? - You know who to call: True — or False? If you're giving out Cs, Ds, or worse — it's time to transfer schools. #DEVsource #technology #techtips #technologysolutions #ManagedIT

DEVsource was proud to co-sponsor the putting contest with Max Towing, and we had a great time meeting everyone who stopped by our table and entered our raffle. Congratulations to Matt Scoggins, winner of our painted bottle of Buffalo Trace bourbon and locally ground coffee from The Cellar Door! We’re always glad to support a fun event that gives back to the community.
