What's new in version 6.884

Gamepads (new, macOS 14+):
  • Use game controllers with BetterTouchTool: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and MFi controllers work right away. Other USB / Bluetooth gamepads can be set up with "Learn Button Mapping…" in the profile settings. To start, choose "Gamepads / Game Controllers" in the trigger type selector, click + and pick which controllers the profile applies to.
  • Triggers: buttons (press, long press, double press, repeat while held), analog triggers, stick directions, button combinations, and gamepad connected / disconnected / battery low.
  • Sticks & touchpad: in the profile settings each stick can "Move Mouse Pointer", "Scroll", "Smooth Zoom" or "Fire Stick Direction Triggers". The DualShock 4 / DualSense touchpad can work like a Mac trackpad, scroll, zoom, or recognize taps and swipes. A button whose only action is a left or right click acts as a real mouse button, so dragging works too.
  • Live view: switch the trigger list from "List" to "Live" to see a picture of your controller. Press a button on the pad to select it.
  • Hold layers: give buttons and sticks a second function while a chosen button is held ("Hold Layers" in the profile settings).
  • Mappings pause automatically while a game is in front ("Pause gamepad mappings while a game is in the foreground"). Hold Home + Menu for 2 seconds to pause or resume them manually.
  • New actions: "Gamepad: Pause / Resume Mappings", "Gamepad: Set Stick Mode", "Gamepad: Rumble" and "Gamepad: Set Light Bar Color".
Screenshot editor (new):
  • New editor: "Capture Screenshot then edit in BTT (easiest)" now opens a new editor. It has arrows (also curved), shapes, pen, highlighter, text, step counters, spotlight, magnifier, crop and backgrounds. Redaction can find email addresses, phone and card numbers, IBANs and API keys automatically. The result can be pinned to the screen, shared, uploaded or opened in macOS Markup.
  • Copy Text from Area: press X and drag over any text in the image to copy it.
  • New actions "Edit Image from Clipboard" and "Edit Selected Image File(s) in Finder". "Edit Image" in the clipboard manager also uses the new editor.
  • Save as PNG, JPEG, HEIC or TIFF.
AI assistants (h@llo.ai):
  • Chats keep running in the background when you close the chat window. The sidebar marks unread replies and chats that are waiting for your approval.
  • Permissions: per assistant, choose "Act Automatically", "Ask Before Changes" or "Read Only" (AI Config → Skills → Permissions / Memory / Sandbox), or switch it for a single chat with the toolbar icon. With "Ask Before Changes" you approve scripts, file changes, keyboard / mouse input and setup changes first, also from BTT Mobile on your iPhone.
  • Memory: shared between assistants, per assistant, or off. Browse and edit it in the chat sidebar via "⋯" → "Memory…".
  • Automations: right-click one of your messages → "Save as Automation…" to rerun a prompt from the Launcher, with a keyboard shortcut or on a schedule. Manage them via "⋯" → "Automations…".
  • Family Assistant (macOS 14+): a household planner that answers from your family documents, calendars and reminders. This was mostly created for my own family management needs, not sure whether it fits others usage patterns :-) In "h@llo.ai / AI Assistants", click + → "h@llo.ai - Family Assistant" → "Set Up Family Assistant…".
  • Document Libraries: let assistants search folders of PDFs, scans and notes. The text is indexed only on your Mac. Add one with + → "AI Tools & Automation" → "h@llo.ai - Document Library".
  • Ask from anywhere: a new "Ask …" field sits at the top of the menu bar menu. The new action "Ask AI About Selection (Open Assistant Chat)" asks about the current selection. The Launcher offers to ask about selected text or Finder files.
  • "h@llo.ai - Run AI Task In Background" has new options: "Each Time, Use" (selected text or Finder files), "Notify When Finished", "Copy Result to Clipboard", "Open Result in Chat Window" and "Show Current Status Messages".
  • New action "If AI Condition Is True" (Action Sequence Flow Control): runs the If or Else branch depending on whether the AI judges a statement about your text to be true. You can use it for free: add "Jev — AI Conditions" and choose "Free via BTT".
  • New built-in skills: "Text Editing" (rewrite, translate or proofread the selected text in place) and "Web Browser". Skills are now also loaded from ~/.agents/skills and ~/.claude/skills.
  • Scanned PDFs can now be read. New "Maximum Conversation Time" setting (AI Config → API & Models). Also: GPT-6 Sol / Luna models, OpenCode 2.x support, and "None" authentication for local servers.
Trackpad:
  • Fluid / continuous gestures: these run actions continuously while your fingers move, for example to change volume, brightness or MIDI values smoothly. The new gestures are "3 / 4 / 5 Finger Swipe (Continuous)", "2 Finger Pinch (Continuous)", "2 Finger Rotation (Continuous)", and 1- or 2-finger slides along the trackpad edges. Find them under Trackpad → + → "Fluid / Continuous Gestures".
  • Control action values with a gesture: click the link icon next to a number field in an action (for example in "Set Volume"), then choose "Increase / Decrease Value" or "Set Value Directly".
  • New action "Only Continue After Accumulating Movement / Value" (Action Sequence Flow Control). It turns smooth movement into steps, for example one arrow key press for every 10% of swipe movement.
  • Various compatibility fixes for macOS Golden Gate three-finger drag changes.
Mouse & scrolling:
  • Free Pan (drag to scroll in any direction, like moving a map): Normal Mouse → add a trigger for a mouse button → set "Action For Trigger Category" to "Actions Executed On Drag (Continuous)" → choose "Smooth Scroll / Pan" → enable "Free Pan While Dragging (Both Axes)". With "Momentum After Releasing Button", scrolling keeps going briefly after you let go. Panning always stays in the window where you started.
  • One action for all drag directions: the new "Drag (Continuous)" category also offers "Smooth Zoom", "Smooth Rotate" and "Smooth Space Switch". "Drag Input Axis" chooses horizontal, vertical or automatic.
  • Zoom the whole screen: "Start Smooth Zoom" and the zoom scroll modifier have a new "Zoom target:" option, "Screen (Accessibility Zoom)".
  • Auto Scroll now stays in its window and stops on click or Esc. Fixed sideways smooth scrolling in some apps.
  • Changing the Magic Mouse pointer speed now also works with the USB-C Magic Mouse, and the speed stays applied after sleep.
Window management:
  • More snapping menu options: "Fill to next window" expands a window up to its nearest neighbor. New thirds, center and next-display layouts are available too. Turn the menus on or off in Settings → Window Snapping & Moving → Appearance → "Show nearby snapping options while dragging".
  • Window layouts across Spaces: enable "Include All Spaces" in the "Save current window layout" action or in the layout editor to capture and restore the windows on all your desktops.
  • New action "Show / Hide Dock" (System Actions).
  • "Close Window Under Cursor" and "Quit App Under Cursor" now work on window thumbnails in Mission Control and App Exposé.
  • Snap areas no longer appear during Mission Control or App Exposé. "Reset all Snap Areas" now asks before deleting anything.
  • New condition "App Exposé Active" (macOS 27). Mission Control detection works again on macOS 27.
Window Switcher & Dock:
  • The window switcher no longer brings BetterTouchTool to the front. When opened from a Dock icon it appears faster, and it only takes keyboard input once you move the pointer into it.
  • New options in "Show Window Switcher for Active App": "Do Not Show If App Has No Windows", and sorting by "Window ID".
  • "Mouse Hovers Dock App Icon" reacts faster, and its "Hover Delay" can now be 0.
Launcher:
New built-in items:
  • "Snippets": search and paste your snippets.
  • "Dictionary": type "define ".
  • Join Zoom, Teams, Meet or Webex meetings from your calendar.
  • Quick Links is now built in (Launcher Settings → Launcher Plugins). It supports placeholders such as {argument:project}, selected text and clipboard.
  • Commands can ask for input in a small form before they run. Text transformations show the original and the result side by side.
  • The Launcher opens faster and no longer asks for Calendar / Reminders access just to show suggestions. Dragging the Launcher window works more reliably.
Floating menus & macro pads:
  • 3D knobs and sliders: "Knob Style" and "Slider Style" have three new looks: "Brushed Metal", "Soft Grip" and "Dark Studio". Sliders can now be vertical, and you can add "Show Current Value" and custom colors.
  • New "Application Menu Bar Widget" item: shows the menus (File, Edit, View …) of the app you're using.
  • Web views show an error with a Retry button when a page can't load.
Macro pads:
  • Experimental Mirabox N1 support.
  • New option to hide the page navigation buttons.
  • Lower CPU and energy use.
  • Loupedeck and Mirabox devices are only taken over once a floating menu is assigned to them.
Keyboard / Low Level Key Remapping:
  • Record keys for remapping: the "Remap Keyboard Key" trigger (Automations & Named & Other Triggers → General) and the "Remap Keyboard Key (Low Level)" action now have "Record From Key…" and "Record To Key…" buttons.
  • More remappable keys: brightness, Spotlight, Do Not Disturb, Globe and the MacBook keyboard backlight keys.
  • The "Unlock Screen" action is more reliable.
Finder context menu:
  • Show items only where they make sense: in "Custom Finder Context Menu Items" (Automations & Named & Other Triggers → General), each item now has a "Show when" section. An item can show only when items are selected, only on the folder background, or only for certain kinds of items (files, folders or apps), file extensions (pdf, jpg …) or file types.
Menu bar:
  • Hiding menu bar icons works again on macOS 27. If macOS blocks access, the action shows a "Grant Menu Bar Access…" button. Full Disk Access is not needed.
  • New action "Show / Hide Menu Bar Status Items for Selected Apps". The menu bar actions now have a "Restore All Hidden Items" button.
BetterTouchTool's own menu:
  • New "Help & Community" submenu.
  • The update checks moved into the version submenu. Settings → User Interface → "Show Update Checks at Top Level of Menu Bar Menu" brings them back to the top level.
  • A warning appears when BetterTouchTool is disabled.
Clipboard & uploads:
  • Placeholders such as dates in snippets are now filled in when you paste, also in rich text snippets.
  • Copying HTML (for example from Figma or web pages) no longer freezes BetterTouchTool.
Other:
  • Volume and brightness indicator: on macOS 27, the system indicator now appears when BetterTouchTool changes volume or brightness. On older versions, "Set Volume" has a new "Show system volume HUD" option.
  • New "Database Backups" setting (Settings → General) for how many days databases from previous versions are kept.
  • The action picker now shows "Recently Used" actions at the top.
BTT Mobile 1.2:
  • Clipboard previews in the Launcher, and a steadier result list.
  • Turn knobs by circling them.
  • Approve AI actions on your iPhone.
  • Less background CPU and energy use (floating menu hover, macro pads, pointer speed, running-app checks). Fixed high CPU usage on macOS 27.2.
  • Fixes: "Close All Notifications" on macOS 27, screen edge triggers that used the wrong distance, and many smaller issues and typos.

More and more mare with unnecessary features. It works worse and worse and more and more errors. After 10 years I say thank you but no more.

The constant updates are getting on my nerves especially that many times it keeps proposing the same updates over and over and over again even though the app is already updated.. and the "Automatically update..." function does not work. App is good otherwise.
