What's new in version 14.3.1
This release brings a wave of improvements to your macOS app experience, including:
- Advanced Protection on every protocol: Advanced Protection now works across all VPN protocols, not just Lightway. This feature is gradually rolling out and may not be available to everyone yet.
- Docker compatibility: Docker containers no longer disrupt networking on your Mac while you're connected.
- Recent locations: Recently used locations are easier to find and reuse, and duplicate entries no longer clutter the list.
- Improved accessibility: You can now navigate the location list, protocol settings, split tunneling, and auto-connect rules with a screen reader. The app now also announces your connection status, settings changes, and dialog content, and we've fixed several VoiceOver issues.
- Reworked speed test: The speed test has been rebuilt to run faster and give you more precise results.
- Split tunneling improvements: Routing is more reliable for apps you exclude from the VPN, protocol information is clearer in split view, and the setup guidance has been refreshed. Split tunneling now leaves DNS traffic untouched, so Advanced Protection works alongside it.
- Startup fix: The app now starts even when your Mac has no network after waking or booting.
- Clearer connection status: The Dock icon animates while connecting, and the app shows "Reconnecting" while it restores your connection.
- Native notifications: Connection notifications now use native macOS notifications.
- Sign-in reliability: Signing in is faster and more reliable.
- Smoother scrolling: Scroll bars now hide when idle and reappear on hover, throughout the app.
- Window positioning: The app window stays on screen when you switch between compact and full mode and when you move between monitors.
- Language fix: Selecting Norwegian now correctly switches the app to Norwegian.
- Easily find your app version: You can now find your app version at the bottom of the sidebar.

The features and functions of the macOS version do not always equal what the Windows version offers. One example: in the Windows version, you can narrow the countries to test for the "Speed Test" but the macOS version does not have that capability. Further, when I asked ExpressedVPN support how to narrow the testing region, the support staff, apparently no knowing that the differences between the Windows and macOS versions, sent me a screen shot showing where that button was located and when I responded with the same screen shot of the macOS version, they insisted that I send it to them 3 times insisting that my screen shot was wrong. Finally, the support staff agreed that the function was not available on the macOS version using wording that indicated they were surprised (perhaps embarrassed) that the function was missing on the macOS version. When I asked about priority for the correction, the response was non-specific.
I use ExpressVPN; my comments here are a result of lack of quality assurance between versions of the product, lack of knowledge from the support staff, and lack of commitment to quickly fix the missing feature.
