Staking is the process by which STX holders can earn Bitcoin yield by locking their tokens and supporting the network's consensus mechanism. Read more about it on the official Stacks FAQ.
Our fees are 5% of what you earn. Nothing is charged on chain and nothing is taken from your STX: the whole reward stream is collected by our signer, and our cut comes off when we pay you out in BTC.
Yes, 1,000 STX. It is a floor on your total staked position, enforced by our signer contract, so the app will refuse anything smaller.
The reason is Bitcoin fees: every staker costs one extra output in each payout batch, and below that floor a staker's share of the rewards would not cover the cost of paying it out.
Planbetter team believes in decentralization at all levels. We maintain our own infrastructure to reduce third party dependencies. We run our own Stacks Signer, Stacks nodes, Stacks explorer, and Bitcoin nodes. This has a cost that we need to cover.
Unlike other pools, Planbetter operates independently from Hiro and the Stacks Foundation. We have not accepted economic incentives from other companies or VCs.
We believe in a healthy, transparent, and self-sustainable business model where its success depends solely by our reputation and performance.
The Bitcoin address your payouts are sent from, and the Stacks Signer contract address you stake to.
Every two cycles. This cadence could vary if for example, Bitcoin fees are too high so it makes sense to batch more cycles in a payout. We are incentivized to streamline the process to pay as less fees as possible.
Staking rewards accrue to our signer as sBTC, which we bridge back to real Bitcoin and send on to each staker. Payouts go to the Bitcoin address that appears in your Leather wallet, in the shape of native BTC.
Unlocked STX are tokens sitting idle in your wallet, which is what you shall start staking: they cannot already be locked by another signer or pool, or sent away to another address.
When you stake, your STX lock in your own account. They never move to us.
How much you'll earn varies from cycle to cycle. The APY on this page is what stakers earned in the last cycle. You can compare staking options on stakingrewards.com.
You can do it by clicking on the "Stake more STX" button on our web app. The amount you enter is added to what you already have locked, and the new tokens start earning from the next cycle.
The last 100 Bitcoin blocks of every cycle are the prepare phase, when the next cycle's signer set is frozen. During that window the Stacks protocol itself refuses new stakes, top-ups and unlocks. This is not a Planbetter deadline, and no pool can work around it.
Staking reopens as soon as the next cycle starts. The card at the top of this page shows how long is left.
Unlike custodial staking services where you entrust all your funds, Planbetter is never in control of your STX tokens. They lock in your own account, and only you can move them once they unlock.
Planbetter never holds your STX. They lock in your own wallet and come back to you when your term ends, whatever we do.
Your rewards are the part that involves trust. They are collected in full by our signer contract so we can bridge them once and pay everyone in native Bitcoin.
So the worst case is that we hoard the rewards instead of distributing them. Our reputation would be destroyed, every staker could unstake and stop giving us their rewards, and all of it would be plainly visible on the blockchain.
Payouts are sent directly to your Leather Wallet.
If you have been staking with us since before Stacks pox5, you might need to access your payouts the old way. Learn here how.
PoX-5 is the current version of the Stacks staking protocol, live since cycle 141. It replaced delegation with direct staking, and it changed how joining us works:
You simply need to stake again through our web app. Your past payouts are in the Bitcoin address you chose.
