Hi, I'm Matt.HomeBlogYouTubeXGitHubENFR

I'm a Canadian-American applied mathematician currently completing my Bachelor's degree at the University of New Hampshire. My areas of study are in the fields of computational mathematics as well as machine learning. My hobbies include film making, music, poetry, and being a white-hat hacker who uses technology to build projects which I learn from. When I'm not working on homework, you can either find me experimenting with coffee or exploring this beautiful planet we get to call home.

My Learning Interests

While my degree is in applied mathematics and focuses primarily on computer science, my learning interests are widespread and range from Philosophy and Theology, to Psychology and Sports Medicine. Currently I am reading The Master and His Emissary, and The Proof in the Code.

My current coursework (updated through Autumn 2026):

Projects

Senior Research Project

A research project into using machine learning to see if one could algorithmically predict what the best way to brew a cup of coffee is based on the bean origin, altitude, and other factors.

Lotus 58 Custom Keyboard

I've always enjoyed building mechanical keyboards, but always wanted to build something completely mine from the ground up. The Lotus 58 is a custom split keyboard that I build over the course of a couple weeks to learn more about how electronics work, as it's built entirely from scratch (including printing the PCBs yourself. I built mine with Gateron Silent Ink Black v2 switches, so I could code/write late into the night.

Gostow

GNU Stow is a very popular utility that is used by both Linux and macOS users to manage "dotfiles" (configuration files which are stored as text inside a special folder). However, GNU Stow was originally written to help software developers build and test their programs, so managing dotfiles wasn't their original goal, resulting in many workarounds having to be done in order for dotfile management to work. I wrote Gostow as a standalone replacement which specializes only in dotfile management, which was written entirely in Go.

Zettk-CLI

A CLI tool I developed to help with my note taking system (that being the Zettlekasten system popularized by Leibniz) without the need for external GUI tools such as Obsidian. It worked by auto creating and linking notes together as I create them, building the web of notes as I learn. This system hooks directly into your Neovim configuration as well, enabling a fast, dynamic workflow of note taking that prioritizes getting knowledge down without the hassle of using a GUI application.
