Hi! I'm nex! I do cool things on the internet, namely security, networking, and privacy.

You probably know my name from my work on Matrix projects, or perhaps you read one of my blog posts. My various screen names may also have come across your viewport if you've used any of the libre softwares I do.

I'm quite an avid fan of music, which you can see from my scrobblers linked below, and enjoy playing some games whenever I'm not busy. When I get the chance, I occasionally watch some movies or shows too, typically of the sci-fi genre.

I'm currently a full time student, studying BSc. computer science. I also did a year of BSc. cyber security & digital forensics, but decided the academic side of cyber just wasn't for me. Prior to that, I studied a technical qualification in Digital Support Services (with an occupational specialism in cyber security), walking away with a merit.

Current projects

I'm currently working on the following pretty cool things:

• Continuwuity - a community-driven, Rust-powered Matrix homeserver implementation, forked from the late conduwuit.
• Venator - another Matrix homeserver implementation built from-scratch in Golang utilising the mautrix-go SDK.
• Meowlnir - an opinionated moderation bot for Matrix.
• resolvematrix - a command-line and library written in python for resolving and contacting Matrix servers as both a server and client.
• Washing Machine Bot - a Discord bot I wrote to track the state of, and receive notifications for my washing machine. See the blog post about how I hacked my washing machine to make this bot!
