Dress Me Up Challenge
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
So I was able to suppress the urge to purchase digital kits even though the husband allowed me to use his cc. With sales here and there... God! It's just so hard to draw my eyes away from the word SALE! Tsk Tsk... Anyways, I'm enjoying the freebies from everywhere so it really just takes a pinch and a blink to let the addiction pass off. *LOL*
Anyways, have you heard about the PARTY at Cinnamon and Vanilla? Grab the freebie and participate in the Dress Me Up Challenge. Here's my take ... and it's definitely sooooo me! :)

Therapy
Saturday, March 15, 2008
It's my nature to spend. For example, whenever we go (window) shopping, I don't feel good without bringing anything home. Doesn't matter what it is... can be a pen, book, magazine, shampoo, lotion, ... of course I'll be happier if I take home shoes, bags, clothes and the like. Point is, I just spend whenever I feel like spending. Of course, there were tipid times, but generally speaking, I'm more of an impulsive rather than wise buyer. I feel pleasure when I shop. Well, I guess I'm no different with most of the girls in the sense that I need "retail therapy" to make me high. *LOL*
I've been on shopping rehab these past few weeks ... meaning, I don't spend for stuff other than daily necessities. I have to think twice, thrice, or ditch the urge to buy altogether. Reason being (1) we're currently unemployed (2) we just shopped for winter clothes and stuff in U.S. I have provided for myself ever since my mom stopped supplying me moolah after college. Never tried taking breaks in between jobs. If I have vacations, they were all paid leaves. So the thought of "no income" makes me feel lost... and it sometimes does freak me out. :( Oh anyways, it's a little too early to worry for now since we've just been here for a month. I'm praying really hard that we get a job really soon.
To make-up for the shopping rehab, I do scrap therapy. I begged off from my CT responsibilities at Scrapdish for the month of Jan-Feb. So I tried to catch up for the Feb-March deadline. My mojo was quite active and I was able to produce 2 LOs this week! Here they are (click photo to see credits):

My first take on photo extractions (I did some before but not for digiscrapping).
Time consuming but I'm starting to get the hang of it. :)

Ow, did I mention why we're on ober tipid mode these days? Making up for the big cash out last month for this and this. *LOL*
Next up, I have to do catch ups on Project 52 and photos of our US trip.

Digiscrap Find
I was blog hopping and saw this in Nathy Geuens' blog... The products are amazing and they have an openning sale! Tempting really but I don't have any cc yet as of now to do any purchases. :( I see if I can "bribe" the husband to get me some stuff in the shoppe. *grin*

thirty one
Wednesday, March 12, 2008
The husband just turned 31 last March 3. I had a job interview that morning at downtown area. After the appointment, we had lunch at a nearby thai restaurant called Salad King. This is our very first family celebration since we moved to Toronto.
Side note: I didn't have a gift for my husband dear on his birthday :( Hay!!! ang hirap mag-isip ng regalo para sa lalaki!
Side note 2: We had dinner with my friend Carol that night... and man, the one and only waitress of the restaurant really has a horrible attitude! Sarap sabunutan! And the meal wasn't that good either. :(
P.S. Girls, thanks for leaving messages here. I do read all of them but please excuse me for not replying. I'm trying to catch up on a lot of things these days... review for interviews, post processing of photos, digiscrapping, blogging... I do hope to be more "visible" in the coming days.

Touch Down Toronto
Saturday, February 23, 2008
We have finally arrived our final destination on Feb. 17 - Ontario. Took Air Canada from NJ to Toronto. Despite the super duper small plane, the flight took only less than an hour. We went through immigration and customs in a breeze! Should have just slept earlier the night before the flight instead of wasting time doing the checklist of things we brought with us (it's a requirement for first time immigrants). Well, I'm not complaining though. I guess we just look harmless that's why the officers weren't strict. hehehe... When we went out of the arrival gate, our very dear friend Carol embraced us with a big warm welcome hug. Hay, we're finally in Canada!
So how are we doing? It's been 5 days since we arrived. We're adjusting well but there are a lot of things that needs to be done. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that we could settle down in a month or so. The weather here is cold - freezing cold (mostly between -1°C to -9°C). But it's not as bad as we initially imagined. I guess our body have already adjusted to the weather when we were in NJ. I hate the chilling wind though.... it cuts through my skin like sharp knife! Grrr.. I love it when it snows.... but I hate the slippery floor covered with ice when it rains. Walking on the streets really is a big challenge. Food here is great. We've been eating korean food the first few days since the place we're staying now is near the korean community. We just need a little bit time to get used to the prices here. Everything here is soooo expensive (even compared to the US). We really need to psyche ourselves to stop converting everything into peso because it's simply incomparable. Otherwise, we will starve ourselves to death! *LOL* Well, I guess the thinking will change once we start to earn. Anyways, I know a lot of people are kinda concerned with our whereabouts. Well, here I am blogging to let you know we're doing fine - alive and kicking as we face the adventures this path is leading us to. :)
I have a lot of photos to share and stories to tell. And oh, the assignments that are overdue... Will do them one step at a time. :)

Blogging from NJ
Saturday, February 02, 2008
I was suppose to post this yesterday but wasn't able to hook on a wireless internet connection. boo...
The time now is exactly 5:02 am, Feb. 1... Blogging from NAIA now while waiting to board... it's another hour of waiting... hay...
I wasn't able to rest well last night coz I was crying uncontrollably. My heart was literally aching. I can't bare to think we're leaving our family and our home. Sabi nga ni dex, "pano yan di pa tayo umaalis umiiyak ka na?" O nga naman... e why ba? Nalulungkot ako e. Actually, lahat naman yata kami sa family naging senti lalo na last night when we had despedida dinner. Anyways, as my sister-in-law said in her goodbye text "now wipe the tears and go".. we'll always have a family to come back to in case we feel homesick .. aaawww... we're gonna miss you all....
Here's my post for today....
Nasira ang beauty ko sa flight namin kahapon... 6am flight to HK then to San Francisco then finally New Jersey. Almost 20 hours of flight time plus stop-overs in between. Whew... tiring. Now, we're finally here.. safe and sound. I was expecting to see snow when we arrive but nada.. no snow yet. It's been raining though, so the weather is still cold. Jetlag? Nope, not really. Dex and I wasn't able to sleep the night before our departure so knock down talaga kami ni Dex when we hit the bed. It's 7:30am Feb 2 (NJ Time) right now... I'm sending a few emails and will get back to bed.
That's all for now... Thanks to all who left love through the shout box... *hugz*

It's been a year....
Monday, January 21, 2008
It's been a year since we walked down the aisle...
exchanged our vows...
and pledged to take care of each other till end of time...
It's been a year of learning...
as we live life not as an individual....
but as an entity called family....
It's been a year of coping...
as we adjust to each others' personalities...
both likes and dislikes...
It's been a year of blessing...
for having each other to snuggle with every night...
whether "you" snore or not...
It's been a year of marital bliss...
I wish for our love and family to prosper...
and if not too much to ask, our waist be smaller...
Happy Anniversary to US!!!
I can't believe it's been a year. Time really flies when you are busy. So how did we celebrate this special occasion? Well, nothing new... we just have to eat eat eat. *LOL* We're supposed to treat ourselves with a special spa but we're not sure where to go. Well, we'll just make it up some other day. For now, we'll just settle with personal massage by the spouse in our own room with matching efficacent oil and bossanova music. The husband actually is addicted to the wife's magic hands... (with matching bugbog at siko) *LOL*
Thanks to all who remembered and left their greetings here and through text... :)

Week 3 - Feast of Sto. Niño (Infant Jesus)
Sunday, January 20, 2008
Around the world, pinoys are celebrating the feast of Sto. Niño today (3rd Sunday of January)... now this is something distinctively Filipino. Sto. Niño is a representation of Jesus Christ as a child. The Catholic Church in the Philippines sets the Holy Child as an example of humility and as a celebration of the Incarnation. Many Catholics do not consider the Christmas Season over until the Feast of the Sto Niño. I wish I could witness the Sinulog Festival in Cebu some time in the future. It's really one of the most sought after event by photographers around the country. Well, that's a dream in the future. For now, I'm happy with the photo opps brought about by our own Sto. Niño celebration here in the parish. Trivia: the feast of Sto. Niño reminds us of another thing... our wedding anniversary! :)
Here's the updated index of Project 52. I can't wait to see them all filled up with photos. :)

The mastermind created a flickr group for this project. For those who are interested, please go to this site (http://www.flickr.com/groups/5252/pool/) and join the group. You'll need a flickr account to be able to join. It's free anyways (and I guarantee you'll be dying to get a pro account in the future hehehe). And oh, this is not an exclusive group for DSLR users. You can use point and shoot cam, cellphone cam, ... whatever. As long as it's a device that has the capability to capture images. As of writing, there are already 10 members in the group. *yey*

Jitters
Thursday, January 10, 2008
The big move is 3 weeks away. I'm a little overwhelmed with the things we have to prepare. Thinking about it makes my head ache. I'm having jitters already... looks like it's gonna be series of sleepless nights again. At times, I do have the urge to cancel everything. Yeah, slap me real hard just so I wake up and face reality. :( Like last night, I spent hours lulling myself to sleep. I prayed real hard for God to take my worries away. And I have to stress again, He really hears our prayers. Around late last year, I prayed and asked Him to enlighten me with this big worry I'm facing. I got a solution to it the very next day. Then last night, I prayed for Him to help me again on the same issue (on another context). Today, I got an answer to my prayers. Can you imagine I was praying and thanking Him while I was taking a shower this morning... for giving solutions to my problems whenever I call on His name and ask for help. I realize, God is everywhere. You just need to reach out and let Him in. Have you done that? I just did.
Anyways, life will be hectic in the next few weeks so I need to cut back on internet time and focus on the stuff we need to do. Hence, I'll be MIA (missing in action) for a while. Will still do project 52 and upload photos in flickr but will not be posting as much. To know my whereabouts, just check my flickr album.

Project 52 - Week 2
The early bird really catches the worm. I chanced upon this view when I woke up yesterday (January 9) at 5:30am. I'm a natural night owl, it's a rare opportunity for me to witness such great scene. I immediately grabbed my cam and snapped away. This is the view right in front of the window. See the star sparkling on top of the building? No, it's not dead pixel *LOL* While most people are head-over-heels crazy about sunset, I realize sunrise can be as beautiful. Now, I'm planning to wake up again early next time to get a few more shots. That is if I manage to drag myself out of bed. :)

Project 52
Tuesday, January 08, 2008
I've been reading a lot about project 365 all over the web including the bebots forum and a couple of blogs I frequently stalk. Really tempted to hop into the wagon but I really doubt if it's, by my means, achievable. I sort of just let the thought slip away until I saw Aries' post regarding project 52, meaning a photo a week. Hm.. that's doable I think. Aside from taking 52 photos, the java guru also added another goal which is in form of tags. Tags are categories or subjects to shoot. So by the end of the year, all tags should be covered. Interesting isn't it? I have started week 1 and here's my photo...
Since I'm so tamad, I snagged the photo template from the java guru and made it my own. hahaha... For the credits, kindly refer to his post. (The background was something he grabbed from the net and forgot where he got it from. Sue him for not giving proper credits... hahaha... joke Aries! drop him a comment and he'll credit your work.)
Here's my flickr album for the project. Drop me an email if you want to join the fun. :)

DIY Digiscrap Poster Boards
Monday, January 07, 2008
Went to Fuji a few days ago to have a stack of photos printed. Among this includes 2 12x12 digiscrap LOs that are to be framed later on. When we went inside the shop, I was amazed by the poster boards mounted on the wall. I asked the one assisting us how much they charge if I will have my photos made like that. He said, they don't provide such services and advised us to just buy the boards at National Bookstore. So we did and we're super happy with the outcome!!
First, have your photos/layouts printed on silk paper. I had mine printed in full size which is 12x12 inches.

Second, buy multi-purpose foam board with one side adhesive. We got it at National Bookstore in 32x40 dimension for 300+ pesos. Base on calculation, this can accommodate 6 12x12 LOs and a couple of extra for 4R and 5R photos.

Cut out the foam according to the size of your photo/layout leaving a couple of white spaces on the borders for further trimming. Peel the film and put the photo/layout on the adhesive side. Make sure you do it accurately to avoid creases and bubbles. Use a sharp blade and trim the sides of the foam.

Viola!!! These poster boards are ready for mounting on the wall using double sided tapes. No need to spend big bucks on expensive framings. And these poster boards look professionally finished since the photos were printed on silk/matt paper.

I'm super tempted to print and mount my favorite LOs and photos.... I'm thinking of a wall of collage. But I guess it can only be done after we move to Canada.
