Exploration & Production
45-8 ENERGY is dedicated to the exploration and production of eco-responsible industrial gases such as helium and natural hydrogen. Our ambition is to become the first European producer of helium and natural hydrogen. To achieve this goal, our positioning is based on 3 essential pillars:
- Co-development of resources
- Extracting and distributing resources to strategic local markets through production close to European consumption centers
- Reducing the resource supply chain by eleminating costly and environmentally damaging steps

Expanding to the USA to learn more about natural hydrogen
Beyond this European ambition, we are committed to understanding the details and specificities of the natural hydrogen geological system.
Natural hydrogen, discovered by chance in the 1970s, has only been studied as a potential resource for the last ten years. Its exploration is still in its early stages, and we are seeking to overcome the uncertainties we face in order to optimize our exploration activities.
This aspiration is driving us to join forces with key partners and to look at diverse geological contexts outside Europe’s borders, in order to gain a better global understanding of the natural hydrogen system and the contexts in which this gas accumulates in commercial quantities.
For these reasons, 45-8 ENERGY has decided to launch its first overseas exploration project, in partnership with H2Au, notably in the USA.
Innovative solutions
45-8 ENERGY is developing business units that are complementary to its exploration and production activities. In 2023, 45-8 ENERGY has announced the development of two innovative solutions: RECYCL’He and SurfMoG H₂.
Our first mobile helium recycling unit, an innovation that improves the reuse of this strategic resource.
Based on years of development and expertise in instrumentation and gases, SurfMoG H₂ is the ideal tool to conduct long-term monitoring of natural hydrogen in the subsurface.
