About the challenge

The 5C Hackathon will be a Code-to-Connect based hackathon for undergraduate students of the five Claremont colleges. Under the new theme, participating teams of 1 - 4 students will innovate and build technical solutions to address real-life challenges faced by our community and the broader society, fostering connection, collaboration and positive change - all over a 24-hour period.

Judging Criteria

  • Originality and Learning
    How much do we love and are excited about the idea? Did the solution/technology make you go “wow”? How much did the team stretch themselves? Did they learn new skills and how did they maneuver around obstacles along the way?
  • Technical Complexity of Project
    How well was the technical aspect of the project described? Did it use a particularly clever technique or approach? How technically impressive was the hack?
  • “Code to Connect” Impact
    How much did this hack match the theme of “Code to Connect”? Did the technology improve people’s lives, small or big? Would applications of this tool have a clear positive impact on the world, small or big?
  • Polish
    How developed is your project? It doesn't have to be complete, but how well do the parts you've built work? What are your next steps, and how well have you planned them out? We're looking for thoughtful execution and a clear roadmap forward.
  • Presentation
    How well was your idea as well as the implementation steps clearly explained? Is the problem clear? How coherent is your demo? Did each member of the team demonstrate a level of understanding of the project and contribute to the project?
