Pinewood Derby 2015

We had our annual Cub Scout Pinewood Derby last month and it was so much fun!  We didn't decorate much but I LOVE what we did!  I LOVE the BIG balloons on the BIG construction cones (thank you Lehi city for leaving them for 2 months so my friends could keep them and I could borrow them) - Kelly did a GREAT job making them!

And how fun are these awards!!!  The BIG ones in the back were just for decoration - Lindsey did a FABULOUS job making them!

I made these awards - the ones the boys got to take home if they won (with a little help from Dallin).

We also gave each boy that raced a Kit Kat "medal".

For treats this year, I thought it would be fun to have a concession stand - complete with popcorn, cotton candy, licorice, and nachos - SIMPLE but PERFECT!  It will be our new tradition for Pinewood Derby!  Everyone LOVED it!  All the little kids that came to watch their brothers were so well-behaved because of it.  The treats gave them something to do besides running around.  It was great!

Here are some of the boys' cars.  Each boy has a number assigned to them and their cars (oldest to youngest) - I make a plate for them to keep their cars on in between races - works great!

Here is the whole track - it isn't the fanciest track - but it is cheap and the kids get to race a LOT!

Matthew helped with the concession stand.

Close up of the trophies - I like them.

Better picture of the decorative trophies - made out of #10 cans and food cans - just spray painted gold, with some paper on them and some ribbon.

Here are the boys getting all ready for the BIG RACE!

Melissa also helped in the concession stand - she is one of my partners in all our Cub Scout activities - she made all the cotton candy!

Race time!  Gavin's car is the one with the LEGO Star Wars thing on top.

Somehow, Gavin's car got FIRST PLACE OVERALL!  I thought for sure it would be slow with a whole mini-Lego set on top - I was wrong!

My twins came to watch Gavin race - and to eat popcorn!

We had the big balloons at the start and finish of the race - I think they were my favorite part!

Thanks to all that helped make it such a fun night for the boys!

SuperBowl Party 2015

With 6 boys in our house, we watch a LOT of football.  So for us, the SuperBowl is a BIG deal.  Of course, this year, we didn't love either team - but since we strongly DISLIKE the Seahawks, we were cheering for the Patriots.

Of course, what would a party be without FOOD - and we had a LOT of yummy food.

Here are some of the appetizers:
Can't remember what these are called (my mom made them)

Buffalo wings

Hot spinach and artichoke dip

Ed didn't think our TV was big enough, so he bought a new, bigger TV just in time for the SuperBowl.  So, since we still had the old one, he set both up for everyone to watch.

Every SuperBowl, I do a raffle.  This year I did 2 - one for the adults and one for the kids.  The adults each got to pick a square.  Then at the end of each quarter, we added the two teams scores together and the person closest, without going over, won a prize.
1st Quarter: Chips, salsa, and queso
2nd Quarter: Football
Then at half time, I let all the adults select another square.
3rd Quarter: Little Caesars gift card and a 2-liter
4th Quarter: $25 gift card to Outback and Dove Dark (dinner and dessert)

For the kids Raffle, the each got 3 squares.  Then every 5 minutes according to the game clock, we picked a random number and that kid got a candy bar.  The kids loved it!  At the end, we made sure every kid got a candy bar.

During most of the game, the kids played outside - what a CRAZY not cold winter we had.

I did take a few pictures of everyone watching the game.  LOTS of our friends were out of town but it was still a fun night - but they were missed.
