Dr. Mildred D. Muhammad, D.Hum., is a celebrated global speaker, a survivor, and a pillar of hope whose life’s work is dedicated to transforming pain into advocacy and action. Her authority is recognized through her role as a Certified Professional and Personal Development Consultant and her appointment to the Maryland Board of Victim Services. Yet, it is her profound connection to the community and her unwavering commitment to survivors that makes her message so powerful.
Dr. Muhammad’s expertise is forged in the fire of personal experience as the former spouse of the DC Sniper, a journey of terror and survival that she bravely detailed in her groundbreaking Simon & Schuster memoir, “Scared Silent: When the One You Love Becomes the One You Fear.” Her story reached millions through the Investigation Discovery documentary “Hunted by My Husband: The Untold Story of the DC Sniper,” breaking the silence on covert abuse. In her final and empowering memoir, “I’m Still Standing: Crawling Out of the Darkness into the Light,” she completes her public journey by providing a clear, compassionate guide from victimhood to victorious survivorship, focusing on healing, resilience, and reclaiming one’s life.
As a Certified Domestic Violence Advocate, she translates this lived experience into practical support, education, and systemic change. Honored with an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities and the prestigious Purple Ribbon Lifetime Achievement Award, Dr. Muhammad speaks with a voice of hard-won wisdom and deep empathy. Her presentation is more than a speech; it is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a direct call to action, offering validation, critical knowledge, and the unwavering belief that healing is possible and that no one in our community has to suffer alone.
