Thank you for your interest in the AI Acceleration Program at UNC-Chapel Hill. This program aims to foster innovation and excellence in AI-related projects across campus. Whether you are a faculty member, researcher, or part of a campus unit, we invite you to submit your proposal for consideration. In an effort to lower the barrier to entry into the Generative AI world, we’ve setup two pathways into the proposal process: Pre-proposals are in effect a request for a consultation about your GenAI idea, which can be helpful if you need some assistance developing your proposal; and formal proposals have detailed specifications and are reviewed by a committee.
Submission guidelines
Whether your submitting a pre-proposal or a formal one, please ensure it aligns with the following guidelines:
- Relevance to AI: Projects should involve the exploration, development or application of Artificial Intelligence or AI-adjacent technologies.
- Impact and innovation: Proposals should clearly outline the potential impact of the project and its innovative aspects within its intended scope.
- Feasibility and sustainability: Projects should be feasible within the proposed timeline and budget, with potential for sustained impact or scalability.
How to submit
Each of the AI Acceleration programs has its own set of questions and selection criteria. Visit the page that corresponds to the program to which you are applying; there you can submit a pre-proposal or a formal one.
Selection process
Informal proposals will be reviewed by the AI Acceleration program team and someone from that team will contact you to schedule subsequent meetings. Formal proposal submissions will be initially reviewed by the AI Acceleration program team for technical feasibility, and if approved, will be considered by a committee. The committee reviews proposals according to this rubric. After the review committee considers a proposal, the Provost receives the committee’s recommendations and makes a final determination whether a project or fellowship receives funding through this program.
