Finally...the news!

It's A Girl!!

There you have it.

Julie's doctor is going to do another ultrasound in January to doublecheck, but at our last ultrasound, it was definitely not a boy. We are extremely excited to be welcoming a baby girl into our family, and are adjusting to the thoughts of pink, bows, and frills. Julie is getting more excited by the day, and already feels more feminine just knowing she's got a little girl on the way.

In more exciting news, Aaron officially has a student teaching position for next semester. He will be teaching 3 periods of English, and 1 of Spanish and Loyola Sacred Heart Christian School. He is teaching with 2 mentor teachers, all classes are the 10th grade. We are so excited that this has come through, and feel relieved to know that the next stage of his schooling is in full swing.

As most of you know, we came to California to celebrate Christmas. It was Julie's incentive for finishing her class before Christmas. (She did take her final exam. Results still to come.) Unfortunately, we happened to hit the Las Vegas snow storm on our way to California. We stayed the night in Primm, Nevada (the Nevada/California border), then spent the next morning waiting to try and get on the freeway, then giving up and going back to Las Vegas and spending a few hours with Julie's brother Justin and his family. We did finally make it to Pomona after 3 long days of travel. Needless to say, we were so glad to be here. It must be said that Joseph was an absolute trooper the entire time and didn't once get mad at how long it was taking to get to Grandma's house. We are now in California (which is why pictures will have to wait until we get back home).

That is most of our big news. We will be in Pomona for about a week and a half. We are enjoying the sunshine! Hopefully, Julie will be able to see some of her friends during the trip. (Email me if you want to hang out!) Our schedule isn't very busy, and that's the way we wanted it. So there's lots of time for sitting around and chatting and that sort of thing. Anywho - We'll probably save the next post for when we get back. So until then, have a great Christmas, and a wonderful New Year!!

P.S. No names yet. We'll let you know.

Thanksgiving and giving thanks

ImageHere's a belly picture, taken by Aaron. Julie is 17 1/2 weeks here. She's almost 20 weeks now, so it's a little bit old. The belly is continuing to get bigger and since Thanksgiving time, Julie has been able to feel soft kicks and not so soft kicks, more and more often. She's very grateful for them, because they help her feel like everything is okay in there.

For Thanksgiving the small Denney family went up to Kalispell to spend the holiday with the bigger Denney family. All of Aaron's brothers were there, along with Grandmas, nieces and nephews. It was a great visit. Joseph is getting more and more familiar with Aaron's family and misses them more and more whenever we leave.

And in exciting Denney family news, Aaron's brother Tim and his wife Anna are expecting their second baby! Anna is due in June (We're pretty sure). Abram will be about 18 months old when the new arrival comes. We're so happy for them!

In the name of being thankful, Julie came up with a cute game to playImage with Joseph to help focus on Thanksgiving, and being thankful. We all sat on the floor and rolled a ball between us. Whoever gets the ball says something they're thankful for, then passes it to the next person who says one thing they're thankful for. Joseph just loves this game! We don't think he really understands what it means, but he gets really creative and asks to play it often. In the hope of having a Thanksgiving decoration, Julie adjusted the game. We played it again, and wrote down all of the things we were thankful for. Then we made paper chains and had a great big chain of "Thankful Things" to hang on our wall. It was really fun and we'll definitely play again next year.

Joseph is also learning bits and pieces about Christmas and getting more and more excited for that. We tell hiImagem we'll be sharing Christmas with his other Grandma, and other cousins. He understands it a little bit. He is definitely excited. Saturday evening we all decorated the apartment with our Christmas decorations. We only have a small collection, but we like them. We got a small 3 foot artificial tree to hang our ornaments on, with lights and garlands. It looks beautiful! Joseph enjoys the lights too.

We are looking forward to our Christmas holiday in California. Julie is finishing up her class, as promised, to earn this vacation. She finished her last two essays, and now has one day of reading, and then studying for the final exam! Her final is scheduled for December 8th (her mom's birthday). Please remember her on this day and keep your fingers crossed! Passing this test is the last step to being able to apply for graduation. Well, we will try and post again before we leave for California. Our current departure date is December 16th. Oh, and Julie is having her ultrasound on December 15th! So we'll have some exciting news in just two weeks!

p.s. leave your guess in the girl vs. boy war! We'll find out who wins in 2 weeks!

Fun baby updates...

Although Julie has an appointment this coming Monday, she wanted to share some of her baby moments the past month or so, just because they're fun to share.

1. The baby bump is finally showing through the layers of clothes to the outside world! That's always so exciting! Although she's seen the difference for a while now, her friends can officially see the belly bump.

2. Starting last Sunday, Julie has felt the baby move (really move, not butterflies) about 4 times. Last Sunday the baby gave her a nice drop kick while she was talking to a friend about her belly bump. It was quite appropriate.

3. Ever since we started asking Joseph if it is a baby girl or baby boy, he has said baby boy. There has never been prompting one way or the other, and he has always been very consistent that it's a boy. We hope he's right! We would love another little boy in our family.

Well, if we find out any exciting news at the appointment Monday, we'll be sure to share. Joseph will be going with Julie, so it would be exciting if he were able to see the ultrasound and "see" what the baby looks like. Julie has a feeling he is going to love being able to feel the baby hit and kick once it is bigger and moving a bit stronger. We're optimistic that Joseph is going to be a really great big brother. Although he has his moments like any two year old, he is so tender and caring of others. He practices with Olivia (18 months old) all the time. He also practices with his toys and dolls, putting them to bed, getting them dressed and putting them in time out. We really look forward to how he reacts to a real baby. When his best friend's brother was born last November, he was really intrigued by the baby and since then has always liked babies. We thought this might be a good sign. We just hope it stays that way. Anyhow, those are our little updates for now. Once the belly starts getting even bigger, expect pictures. Julie loves the big belly pictures. :)

Joseph's Journey and other news...

ImageHalloween day Joseph decided to go on a little journey. He told Julie "Go Sheila's house" "Back soon". Sheila is Jordan's mom (Joseph's best buddy). He is obsessed about going to their house. Julie wouldn't put on socks or shoes when he asked, hoping it would deter him and he wouldn't try to leave. Nonetheless, without a coat, he dragged a cooler with a truck inside it outside, down the stairs, and all the way to Sheila's house down the street.

Julie had Olivia eating lunch at the time, so she grabbed Olivia, and started following him. For a long while, he didn't know they were following, but continued on his merry way. (Did we mention it was quite cold outside?)

It was when he got quite a long ways away that he finally caught Julie and Olivia following along. He would wave, then continue on his way. He walked all the way to their house (a good couple of minutes walking with Aaron or Julie) and proceeded to knock on their door. He knewImage that Jordan and his brother were both sleeping and wouldn't be there to play. (He knew this before he left the house) But that didn't seem to bother him. Sheila was pretty confused at first seeing him without me, barefoot and without a coat. However, she quickly realized what was going on when she was Julie in the distance, and Joseph's "suitcase". He carried it the whole way there, despite its size and weight. We have not allowed him to venture out like this again. Julie was so just so amazed that he would do this all on his own that she had to let him go and see how far he would go on his own. He's never walked this stretch by himself. It crosses the entrances to multiple parking lots, where we always make him hold our hands, but he crossed them all by himself. A brave little guy! (Granted, Julie was watching him the entire time to make sure he was safe!)

In other news, Julie and baby are doing great. She is no longer feeling sick at all (for what little she was feeling sick) and is getting her energy back. That is what excites her most. We don't know when we'll find out the sex of the baby, but are excited for it. Her next appointment is in a week and a half, and he might just do the ultrasound then, but he might make her wait two more weeks until she is officially 20 weeks. Some doctors like to play it safe. But either way we'll be happy and excited for it.

Julie is making steady progress on her class. She set up a schedule so she would be done with her lessons and preparing for her final exam by Thanksgiving. So far she's stayed on schedule. She has 5 lessons to go. Please continue to encourage her! She needs all the motivation she can get!

Image Earlier this month Joseph and Julie went up to Kalispell to visit Aaron's mom on her day off. Diane planned an amazing scavenger hunt for the grandkids. At one point they were at a park that has ducks and geese. Joseph loved this! He often asks to see the pictures of the ducks and when he does see a picture of a duck, he starts to talk about his cousins. It's really cute.

In other interesting Joseph news, about two weeks ago or so, Joseph started climbing out of bed and playing on the floor (at nap times) until he fell asleep on the floor. Joseph's not the type to fall asleep on the floor. It had actually never happened until this picture. It Imagewas so cute we couldn't help but take a picture. After that he would do this regularly at nap time. Then he started doing it at bed time. That was a problem. In response to much of the issues surrounding his play til I drop syndrome, we took a side off his crib, and moved it (so he couldn't turn on his light). So he now sleeps in a toddler style bed. Unfortunately, we had no guard rails. He never cried out at night, so we assumed he wasn't falling out of bed. Then we realized that he would just fall or roll out and keep on sleeping. So Aaron jerry-rigged his crib bumper to serve as a small rail to keep him in bed. It seems to be working pretty well. So our big boy is now in a big boy bed. And no more sleeping on the floor!

Congratulations are due!

So much fun news! First of all, October 8th, Julie's sister Heidi had her baby Carly Ryanne. She had a fast labor and delivery and was able to delivery Carly VBAC (she has had 2 c-sections prior to Carly) We're so excited for the sweet addition to their family. Check out her blog (in the list on the right) to see pictures and read her birth story.

More fun news. Julie took her midterm last week for her very last class to finish her bachelor's degree. She hasn't received her grade from the midterm yet, but it'll come soon. She's confident she passed the test. That's all that matters. She's so excited to be done with it. She's already started on the next half of the class. Wish her luck!

The last of our exciting news is:
Myspace Graphics

Julie's about 3 months along now. We're so excited to have this addition to our family. Her due date is April 22nd. Joseph is vaguely aware that Mama has a baby in her tummy and she takes vitamins for the baby. Julie has been very fortunate to not suffer from much morning sickness. Just the constant exhaustion/nausea. But she's just starting to get her energy back and is feeling more ambitious about activities with Joseph and spending nap time doing homework instead of resting. We will keep you updated to her progress and any fun pictures we get. Her first sonogram pictures were really dark and she accidentally left them at the doctor's office anyway. So maybe we'll post some after the next sonogram. And once her belly starts to really show, we'll make sure to post those belly pictures too. Julie loves to see them from others, so she'll share hers.

School has started

Aaron's school year has officially begun. He quit both of the jobs he was working over the summer so he could take a bigger class load this semester. He is quite busy with homework, and it will be busier later on in the semester. We still enjoy having him home every night. Joseph is starting to enjoy having him home more often, and is taking advantage of more Papa playtime. Aaron has also started teaching seminary this semester. He teaches seniors and juniors from the surrounding area. It has been a challenge getting up so early, but he's doing great! He just received his assignment for observations. He'll be going to a local middle school to do observation hours as part of one of his classes. It should be fun!

Great news for Julie's schooling! After starting a Math class, we found out that Julie did not need to take it! Julie was extremely excited because math is her least favorite subject and after one day of starting her math class she was already frustrated! All we had to do was fax Julie's SAT scores to BYU, which would fulfill her math requirement. It took about 3 faxes, but we finally got it done and Julie officially has ONE class left! She's getting close to her halfway mark in her one class, HUM 202. It's not too bad. She just finished HUM 201 over the summer. Our goal is to have it finished before Christmas. It is getting harder and harder for Julie to stay motivated, but she is determined to finish and have her bachelor's degree done!

Joseph is doing great. He's stretching out quite a bit and we're starting to notice that he's getting skinnier...finally! His vocabulary is skyrocketing. It's so fun. Just yesterday he finally said "milk" instead of "mum" which is what he used to say. He is just getting the "k" sound. He learned it from "Frank" in the movie "Cars". Thanks Grandma and Grandpa Burnham. He watches it once a day. Only because we won't let him watch it more. Thankfully he's starting to want to watch other things. We don't really have much, but at this point Julie will take anything other than Cars. After 2 months of Cars everyday, anything is better than hearing Cars.

In fun news, Joseph has gotten pretty good at having Family Home Evening with us. We started playing "Find Jesus" a few months ago. We have a picture and we'll hide it in a room and he goes and finds it. He really likes it. We also started reading scripture stories from a scripture picture book. He really likes to look at the pictures of Jesus, and baptism. It's so sweet!

In outside our family news, Julie's sister Heidi is due to have her baby girl Carly September 30, but is feeling like she'll be the first of her babies to come early. We can't wait to meet this precious little lady. Aaron's mom had an emergency surgery over the summer which has put her in recovery at home for a few months. It's been tough not being at school teaching her third graders, but she's keeping her spirits up.

Oh, and in old news, Cyrus moved away back in August. Julie hasn't taken many pictures lately, so we just uploaded the pictures from her camera of his last day. His dad is finishing up his med school in Seattle. Joseph sure does miss him, but luckily he only asks for him every now and then. It would be so sad if he asked for him everyday. But Joseph and Olivia are getting along great! She recently got over an ear infection and ever since she started her antibiotics she has been a new girl. Julie's job arrangement couldn't be smoother. The kids love each other and both take great naps at about the same time. It's awesome!

All the best news

Joseph is now a full-fledged two year old! We had a really fun party with his friends here in Missoula at a really fun park with a carousel.

Image Image Image

We had a great time. Joseph really got into opening his presents. It was all-around fun!

We were also able to have a party in Kalispell with Aaron's family the 8th of August. He loved seeing his cousins. We were even able to take a day off to celebrate our 4th anniversary and Diane watched Joseph for us. We think he had way more fun with Grandma than he would have had with us. He just adores her.

Image Image Image

Joseph's getting so big. He is talking more and more. He speaks in 4-5 word sentences most of the time. He's learning to be sweet and endearing and that it will get him what he wants more often. He's also been sleeping like a brick lately. 13 hours at night and a minimum of 3 hours at nap time. We don't know what old lady we helped cross the street in a past life, but we're grateful for it!

Image Image Image

Julie has some great news. Up until a week ago, she had two classes left to finish her bachelors. One was Humanities 202, the other Math. She started the math class one morning and was already hating it. That afternoon Aaron got to thinking and knew that she should have had it waived. So we started researching and found out that her SAT Math score was high enough that the class could be waived. She just didn't submit her SAT scores when she transferred. So now we're just working on getting a refund, and getting her SAT scores posted on her student record. That means she only had one class left to get her bachelors degree! We're very excited and know that it won't be long now!

Lots to catch up on!

Tons has happened since our last post. We'll take it one week at a time.

First is the Fourth of July. We went to Fort Missoula where the Stake put on a pancake breakfast for the community. It was great. Aaron helped out with the food, and Julie took Joseph for a tour of the sights. The sights included a train, tractors, fire trucks, and lots of dogs. Aaron's parents came down from Kalispell to spend the day with us. Later on, we had a BBQ at our place (courtesy of Aaron's parents. They supplied the BBQ.) Aaron's brother Josh was able to come and hang out too. Then that night, Aaron still had to go to work (and worked a grueling shift until after 1 a.m.) so Julie, Joseph and Aaron's parents went to the local mall to see fireworks. Joseph had been such a trooper the whole time, but still didn't make it for all the fireworks. He fell asleep right in the middle. But it was a great time!

Image Image Image

Five days after such fun, the hillside (which is right outside our apartment) was on fire. To make a long story short (and due to the fact that the entire story was written out, but then accidentally deleted when our internet buckled) this is what happened. The hillside was set on fire by two kids playing around. Aaron went to work. Julie and Joseph went out to look around. There were tons of people out watching the fire and fire fighters. A helicopter came around. No one knew it was going to land. Julie and Joseph ended up running for their lives, so as not to be landed on. A family friend came by (Thanks Justin!) and helped Julie get Joseph out of there. (She was dragging the stroller and carrying Joseph while running down a hill) Joseph is deathly afraid of helicopters now if he's outside and not next to someone. But we're all safe and the fire didn't go on too long. The whole experience was unsettling, but helped us get our emergency preparedness gear all ready, and beef up our 72 hour kit, just in case!

Image Image Image

Last but not least is by far the more boring stuff, but still our stuff nonetheless. Julie headed an Enrichment Activity with the Relief Society. Borrowing from Claremont 2nd Ward, we did "Edible Arrangements". Julie picked a bouquet and then taught everyone how to make it. It turned out to be a great activity. Julie also finished up all her classwork for her Humanities 201 class and is now waiting to take her final exam (it has to be mailed up here from BYU). She already ordered Humanities 202 and is ready to start once she gets her textbook in the mail.

Lots of news. Hope you enjoy our little updates. Look for more soon. Joseph is turning 2 tomorrow!

Stuff from before vacation...

This is some stuff we forgot to post before we got wrapped up in Julie's family coming. Mainly there are just some pictures. Enjoy!

The Burnhams come to Montana!

Well, it was mostly Simpsons, but they came! Julie's sister Stacie, her two boys Riley and Nicholas, and Julie's parents all drove up to Montana about two weeks ago. Their driving trip was about as long as their stay, but they made the best of it and we all had a great time!

Image Image Image

This slideshow was made especially for Stacie, because you can stop it and look at each picture for as long as you like. :)

We had a great visit. Aaron was even able to take a day off work and take the Greyhound up to Columbia Falls where we stayed to visit with us for a day. We enjoyed the beautiful timeshare, rec center, white water rafting, and visiting Aaron's family in Kalispell. It was a great trip and by the last day the boys were getting along great, and we were all having a great time. We only wish the trip could have been longer. But now it's our time to visit!

Outside of this wonderful visit/burst of sunshine into our summer, nothing new is going on. Aaron continues to work hard at two jobs, allowing Julie as much time as possible to work on her Humanities 201 class. We are happy to say that Julie is making significant progress and will hopefully be ready to request her midterm by the end of the week. (They mail it to the University of Montana's testing center where she takes her test) Joseph is doing well. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit with his cousins, aunt and grandparents. It was funny to see him at his Denney Grandparent's house. We told him to go to Grandpa and he wasn't quite sure what to do. He's still growing (aren't they supposed to slow down eventually?) and we anticipate that at his 2 year check up they will tell us he is going to be a very tall boy. He continues to love organizing, cleaning, doing dishes, jumping, and playing cars (playing mostly entails putting them in different linear configurations.)

Up and coming for us, we are anticipating Aaron's parents coming down from Kalispell for the 4th this weekend. Then we won't have much else going on until Joseph turns 2 on July 24th!

Memorial Day Weekend

We were originally planning on camping with Aaron's family on Holland Lake. However, the weather did not look promising, so we cancelled the reservation and went up to Kalispell. In the end it was definitely the right decision.

We spent the weekend playing around with Aaron's family. Joseph is absolutely infatuated with his Jared's girls, his beautiful cousins. He asks for them constantly, saying "Nana, JD". It is very cute. We were able to enjoy playing games, eating camping food (which had already been purchased), going to a Memorial Day Parade in Whitefish, and just having fun. The video is from the parade. We were walking to the cemetary and were next to the fire truck. Watch it. It's hilarious! Aaron had Joseph on his shoulders and we were going uphill, so the truck would break every now and then (it was following an ambulance which was following all the people). Aaron started to hear him mimic the fire truck everytime it's brakes made a sound, or it would also make a sound kind of like "choo". He did that one too. It was too funny.

We also put together a slideshow of pics from this weekend. Enjoy! We had a great time and look forward to our next trip this summer: Columbia Falls with Mike, Eris, Stacie, Riley and Nicholas.

Two down...

To update Julie's school status: two down, three to go! Julie finished her first Independent Study class last month with an A grade! She also finished her New Testament class and got credit (not sure what the final grade was). The credit is being transferred to BYU. She already jumped back on the bandwagon and ordered her next class, Humanities 201. This one should be a bit more challenging, but she's ready for it. She is just waiting on one more textbook and she'll be ready to go. Wish her luck!

Aaron just started a second summer job to fill the hours and the bank account. He is working at the Greyhound Station again like he did when we first moved here. Their schedule is flexible enough and the people easy to work with so it will work well with out schedule. Aaron's work schedule is set up to allow Julie to work for an hour in the morning and in the late afternoon. Plus all the time she can work on her class during nap-time. We're hoping to get as many classes done over the summer as possible. Julie thinks she can do at least two. Keep your fingers crossed!

Joseph is great, as usual. He's been enjoying the awesome weather we've been having. Earlier this month Aaron's brother Josh graduated from the University (Congratulations!!!) and the family gathered for the event. We think Joseph is finally comfortable around Jared and Anita's three girls. He says their names all the time now. At first "Nana" was all three. Now he says JD, Nana, and some form of Cadence. We will be seeing them again this weekend and I think he is really excited about it.

We are also extremely excited to see Julie's family coming to visit next month. Stacie, Riley, Nicholas, Eris and Mike are all driving up to Montana to visit us! We are so excited. We'll definitely get some great pictures to share from their visit.

Complicated clothing

What a big boy he is learning how to do this all on his own, even if we don't want him to.

More wonderful things he's learning to do, even if we don't want him to.
He took these off the shelf while mama and papa weren't looking.

Still changing

Due to a mistake on Julie's part, she had to restyle the entire blog. She wasn't very happy with herself for that. Fortunately, it seems like she was able to recreate all the the cool styling she did previously. She's still making occasional changes to this or that. Hope you enjoy them. Here's a fun slideshow of Joseph over the last few days. He's so much fun!

"Dishes!"

Image

Thank you Grandma and Grandpa Burnham for my new apron! It works great for doing dishes. I just love it!

--He was saying "dishes" in this photograph. It's the best smile we've ever gotten out of him for a picture.--

Changes

Julie's been having tons of "fun" trying to figure out this blog business. It's hard, but she enjoys it somehow. Hopefully you can all still read this. She's experimenting with new fonts too. We also put up some of our family photos that were just taken recently. Enjoy!
ImageImage
In exciting news, Julie just took her final exam today, for her first Independent Study class. It will be two weeks or so before it is received and graded, but she's done on her part. She is writing her term paper for her New Testament class, and finishing up the reading assignments. She has until May 9th to finish. She's pretty excited about her progress. We are going out to dinner tomorrow night for date night to celebrate finishing her first class!

We consider ourselves to be loving people

This was Julie's score:

20

This was Aaron's score:

28

We think Aaron got a lot of extra points because he's big, has a long reach, can kick really high and has some fighting experience (having 3 brothers).

Onto real life. We have a huge slide show full of pictures from the last few months. Enjoy, enjoy. During March, Aaron had spring break. During that week we took a trip with another family over to Spokane and took turns going to a temple session. A few weeks before that Julie was able to go to Spokane and attend "Time Out For Women". It was her first time but she absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone (any woman of course). It was a good time.

We're just plugging along for the most part. Joseph is ever growing, and so is his vocabulary. Most of his words are the kind that only Aaron and I can decipher. But they're actually not too bad. If you haven't seen the slideshow yet, Joseph's favorite new thing is to do the dishes. He LOVES to do dishes. Of course his definition of dishes changes constantly. For a while it was play with the cups and things and pour water here or there. Then it was rinse everything and put it on the counter. Now it is dump everything into Mama's side and watch bubbles come up his side of the sink. Either way, it helps Julie to stay ontop of the dishes and we try to let him help as often as possible because it will be his inheritance one day. So might as well learn to like it, huh?

Aaron will be finishing school at the beginning of May. We'll be staying and working here in Missoula over the summer and trying to make ends meet until we start the semester in September and get our next loan installment. We trying our best to minimize the loans we're taking out, and it'll be tough, but we think we can do it.

The weather in Missoula has just recently made a turn for the better. It's been beautiful days. Joseph's inner Montanan is coming out. He just loves to be outdoors. It's given Julie some time to weed out the planter that is downstairs. It might technically belong to the people who live below us, but they pretty much don't want it, so it's given Julie something to do while Joseph wanders around. He's gotten quite good at staying where she can see him, or coming the minute she calls for him to come back. She'll be planting some flowers pretty soon. If they grow and bloom, we'll take a picture.

Well, Julie will try and do smaller updates every now and then, if there's anything to update. Life is pretty simple and non-exciting here. For more exciting lives, check out the other blogs on the right. Just kidding. We miss and love you all!
